What has happened to Free Republic
Me | Me

Posted on 11/19/2001 2:03:57 PM PST by FF578

Has anyone noticed that the Liberal influence has spread here into Free Republic. I notice that less and less Conservatives seem to post here, and more and more Libertarians seem to be.

I get a letter from someone named NYpeanut who is mad because I posted a discussion based on the Gender Gap in voting.

I didn't make it up, there is really a huge Gender gap with Female Voters tending toward the more liberal candidate. The discussion went well without name calling, but this person seems to have taken issue to the fact that I pointed out women seem to vote more liberally than men.

All those who are newbies here are considered disruptors, and those who hold a more right-winged view than the average libertarian seem to be kicked out.

Why is this? Is this a Libertarian site now?

I have noticed more and more posters standing up for Abortion, Homosexuality, the Porn Industry and Drugs since I first came to this site back before the 2000 Election.

Are Christian Conservatives(Who make up a large part of the Republican core vote) not allowed here anymore?

Just because one holds to a higher power, and wishes to shape society in accordance with the laws of Almighty God, does not make one a Taliban Milita member.

'...And when we are speaking of the larger concepts of equality under the law, separation of powers, self government, Freedom, and Liberty there can be no room for debate or compromise...'

I agree, that is precisely why that even when George Bush, or a so-called conservative republican, or liberal democrat, attempts to/ or does, trample on the Constitution or Bill of Rights, then I will make the effort to inform as many Freedom Loving people as possible.

Close enough.

I agree with you. I think it is because the real conservatives don't like being exposed to the often times filthy language that is pointed at them as liberals and ungodly libertarians shout them down.

First of all, any filthy langauge used on this site gets pulled and chronic offenders get the boot. And second, the conservatives are just as capable of dishing insults as the libertarians - I wish I had a time for everytime I saw authoritarian conservatives call libertarians pot-heads and druggies for their stance on the war on (some) drugs. I am against the war on drugs and I don't use illegal drugs - but many authoritarians call me a druggie anyway. So don't whine so hard about the flames - because both sides spray the flames about.

the question is .. why cant you decide not to do drugs, not to be homosexual, and not to get an abortion, without trying to make the decision for everyone else too? I can decide for myself what is right and wrong, I dont need big brother to make the decisions for me .....

When you've spent more than 6 days here, you might grow some thicker skin.

No problem with being yourself anti-abortion. Just hope you’re also pro-choice ..... Let each make their own choice

So what your saying is that it is ok to be anti-abortion as long as you don't do anything to stop women from having abortions. This does not sound consistent with the conservative view. As a matter of fact it does not even jive with the constitution.

I believe that there are also many just like me that read FR daily, but usually don't take the time to post a reply or opinion. Many days, I use this and Drudge as my news sources ( what is one to do? Use ABC CBS NBC or the Clinton News Network for news) I appreciate Fr and what it's purpose is. I also watch for the dem's trying to sneak in and post their hog-wash, we really do need to know what the opposition thinks so we can be sure to override it with truth.

Abortion is murder, so the law is to protect the unborn child.

Drug Use, Pornography and Homosexuality destroy society.

No one has the right to destroy the moral fabric of society, and that is what those things do.

No. What I am saying is that each woman should get to make their own choice regarding abortion. Someone else's unborn child is simply not your business

Libertarians are not liberals.

Because the liberal democratic candidates support things that hurt America. Abortion, Gun Control, Ect....

Show me ONE libertarian who has ever supported gun control. And libertarians are a mixed bag when it comes to abortion - and many libertarians here are against it.

You whine about libertarians and then slander them with generalizations? Seems the REAL problem is that you can dish it out but you can't take it...

Ack! Libertarians are not Liberal. Liberal are socialists. Libertarians are the opposite of socialists. However, cultural conservatives, at least the kind that want government to prohibit porn, drugs, immigrants, foreign trade, etc are SOCIALISTic and are closer to Liberals in that regard than Libertarians would ever be.

Libertarians are consistently anti-socialistic. Cultural conservatives are as socialistic as liberals, just in different topics.

Republicans and/or Conservatives are not monolithic. While I am not a Libertarian I share beliefs with them on certain issues. I like Alan Keyes and I like George W. Bush. I support the Confederate flag and yet supported the Gov. of Illinois when he put a moratorium on the death penalty to review its application by race. My Governor was a Baptist preacher, Christian, Conservative, and Republican yet has serious concerns about the War on Drugs as do I. I am a huge supporter of the 2nd Amendment but I am just as huge a supporter of the 1st Amendment (even for speech I do not like). I like Harry Potter and am pro-Life.

It could be that lots of Republicans don't fall into neat Fallwellian categories and that Conservatives are not as stereotypical as portrayed.

I've found that most Freepers are primarily concerned with the Constitution of the United States more than social policies. Thats not a bad thing.

So you are saying that someone else's child is not our business?

So if my neighbor is murdering his 6 year old, that is his choice?

The Unborn child is a CHILD, it is alive, and no woman has the right to Murder it.
