Black Flags of Islam
Portents of the Imam al-Mahdi, the Moslems' prophesied deliverer of Jerusalem?
|
from Diane Alden
Afghanistan has special significance to the world of militant Islam. It was once called Khurasan, along with parts of Iran and Pakistan. Muhammad said: "If you see the black flags coming from Khurasan, join that army, even if you have to crawl over ice, for that is the army of the Imam al-Mahdi and no one can stop that army until it reaches Jerusalem." That is one reason Osama bin Laden chose it as his base, or al-Qaida.

Will Osama Appear In Pakistan?
Be vigilant for jihadin carrying black flags.

On the wall behind this black-masked Hamas terrorist is a poster of Osama bin Laden. Note the two black flags around the poster.
Anyone have a translation of the Arabic on the poster, or know just which black flags these are?

The Raya of the Messenger was a piece of black wool with the words "La Illaha Illa Allah Muhammadur Rasul Allah" also written across it. Therefore, the Liwaa is a white flag with black inscription, and the Raya is a black flag with white inscription. So, this is the Raya behind bin Laden in the last pic?
Is there any significance (besides the prophecy of the Imam al-Mahdi) to the Raya vs, the Liwaa?
Either way, sems like a plausibel banner for rabid Moslem hordes assemble beneath while marching to Jerusalem.

When the forces in the Sudan led by the Mahdi captured the fort at Khartoum and captured General Gordon, the hated one to them, they thought that they had seen the fulfillment of the prophecy. But not too long thereafter came Lord Kitchener with the Maxim guns and mowed them down by the thousands. It is our better technology that they still resent and they think now, with the oil weapon and its wealth, they have captured it. Time to prove them wrong and take away the oil weapon dramatically. We also will see a better weapon than we have now, more superior than the Maxim gun was to the rifle. It is not the technology which they have stolen that counts, it is freeing the inventors to invent that which will give us the victory, or more accurately bringing swiftly into play that which they have already invented.

This is one of the great threads. What a find. Thankyou.
In Samuel Huntington's Clash of Civilizations he really makes the case that we are entering an extented era where culture will struggle against culture. However, since he makes it clear that culture is defined more by religion than anything else, he is really talking about a world where, instead of ideological conflict, religion will struggle against religion.
Lord of the Rings? Lord of the Cross? Isn't all fantasy literature, all mythic literature, essentially a religious attempt?

The basic conclusion we reached was that it is highly possible Bin Laden thinks himself to be the mahdi, and if he does, he will probably announce it fairly soon...probably after a big event. At that time, we'll know for sure just how loony Osama truly is.Bin Laden's a classic megalomaniac. His psychopathologies make comparisons to Hitler not unwarranted.

Here's
my black flag for the war with Achmed.
Every normal man must be tempted at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." H.L. Mencken 1880-1956

There will never be peace as long as children make demands for adults. WE ARE EVIL TO SUPPORT PALESTINIAN YOUTH UPRISING, AKIN TO SUPPORTING POL POT AND THE KHMER ROUGE!
It's time we put adults in charge. And Bush can go to hell when he asks that US children reach out to muslims. MY CHILD IS NOT HIS PR SOLDIER TO BE BLOWN UP TO BITS FOR HIS PR PEACE!

Do you ever get the feeling we're living in "The Lord of the Rings?" Even in the Lord of the Rings, the forces of Mordor mainly concerned themselves with battle, not gratuitous slaughter of civilians.
Bin Laden would have been expelled even from there. (I should know)

In your* post, there are a great many general pronouns that ought to be specific pronouns, but I like what I see. Mr Benjamin N. the ex prime minister of Israel, talks of the training schools for these future walking time bombs. That Arab, or Muslim or Islamic moms willingly send their children to them for such training and indoctrination at very young ages.
*Very specific pronoun.
Somehow I feel the Israelis have a more realistic idea of what the future holds before "Peace In Our Time", becomes a reality. Which makes the plaintive cries of certain of our countrymen calling for Israel to back off and back out of incursions into Palestinian lands, seem somewnat stupid in the face of what they* face.
*Very Israel specific pronoun.
