SpaceX has just officially announced Starbase, Louisiana, a new $100+ billion spaceport in South Louisiana near Pecan Island.
Construction starts in 2027, with the first Starship launch from the new site planned for 2029.
Starbase, Louisiana will be built to support thousands of Starship flights a year. This self-sustaining spaceport will have propellant production, power generation, deep-water shipping capabilities, vehicle processing facilities, and an airport.
SpaceX is committed to investing at least $100 billion and creating more than 3,000 new jobs at Starbase, Louisana hiring heavily from nearby communities and utilizing Louisiana workers’ extensive experience of building complex infrastructure in their unique environment.
In Vermilion Parish, the shoreline is eroding between 3.3 and 23 feet per year. SpaceX is partnering with state and federal agencies to expand Louisiana’s Coastal Master Plan and Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act projects, including Gulf shoreline protection breakwaters designed to reduce wave energy and slow loss along the Gulf edge.

Starbase Louisiana will ultimately have over a dozen launch towers, enabling more than 30 Starship flights per day and making it the biggest launch site on Earth!
SpaceX makes sci-fi real.
Is that PEE-can or peh-KHAN?
Rock on, Elon!!
Puh khan.
Well, if they were looking for a place with more mosquitos and gnats than Cape Canaveral, they found it!
Not an ideal location. It’s going to get really, really wet every few years.
Wow
Pecan Island?
That’s nuts!....................
Good thing the weather is calm there.
The latter
Nice!
Sweet!
It’s always calm in between hurricanes and tropical storms..............
Louisiana getting that space-port love. When its done there’ll likely be paries for rocket launch veiwings
As the Southern states become the center of so much of corporate headquarters, finance, movie making, technology, and space adventures, the more they grow in public perception of wealth and modernity, and sophistication, and the more the Northeast and even California start looking old fashioned and slow, stale, and part of the rusting past, the backwards part of the nation.
Twenty or 30 years from now, who knows how the public will see the different regions and states.
The latter, peh-KHAN.
I use the latter.
A PEE-can is what they use in Georgia at night instead of going to the outhouse.
