US President Donald Trump urges Americans to accept slightly higher gasoline prices as the cost of preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and said he would soon declare the Strait of Hormuz a US territory.
The comments underscore the growing political risk for Trump as higher fuel prices collide with his campaign promise to lower energy costs, with Democrats already seeking to make the economic fallout from the Iran war an issue heading into the November midterm elections.
In a speech in Garden City, Trump says Americans who had to “pay a tiny little bit more for your gasoline” should remember that this was the cost of ensuring “a very evil country” could not have a nuclear weapon.

Its not like he can use the Strategic Oil Reserves. He that one too many times and it is bone dry. He is married to this mess and he can’t file for a divorce or file Bankruptcy.

The headline doesn’t match what Trump actually said, but this is typical of Times of Israel.
Higher prices for a period would not be much of an issue if they would just eliminate the nuke problem.
However, it’s starting to look like we’ll have the Iran nuke problem and higher gas prices too.
Disaster.
Our POTUS needs to fix BOTH problems.

We have a lot of places to obtain oil from and we have a lot of it price gouging happens in many forms.
We're at $4.09...I just combine my weekly trips. Try carpooling..you might enjoy it.

Trump might on the right track in this war with Iran. Time will tell. Nevertheless, O’Neill is correct. Trump is sadly mistaken if he thinks Americans will accept higher gas prices in order to tame some far-away country.
Gas prices are often a psychological thing. The average American won’t constantly be reminded of, say, egg prices increasing. But he drives by gas station signs every day.
No air force...no Navy...damaged nuke facilities...and a barricade...stopping Iran from "selling" their one commodity...oil....via the Hormuz strait.
Irrelevant. When Trump took office in Jan 2025, gas prices were lower then they are today. Trump campaigned on lowering prices. So far, other than the price of eggs, he has not lowered them. And that will be the bottom line for the voters.
Wasn’t it just a few days ago that Trump was blaming oil companies for high fuel prices? What changed?
Did Trump inherit any Strategic Oil Reserves from POTATUS? I don’t think so.
The face of the Green Energy Scam shut down all of Trump’s first-term gains and bled the tanks dry.
Corporate America was only too willing to cooperate with the Deep State in COVID mandates and DEI.
I will cut Trump a lot of slack - after him, the deluge.
If only paying more for gas would or could lead to a non nuclear Iran.
But these two objectives are as far removed as East is from the West.
We are gonna pay more for gas as long as Iran remains economically stable. I’m hopeful that Trump’s “Wall of Steel” (hoo boy!) that is his blockade works.
And if it does, gas prices will come down.
But as far as solving the nuclear problem? No dice.
