Narrow win for El-Sayed in Michigan is a warning for Democrats
The Washington Post ^ | August 5, 2026 4:30 PM EDT | Editorial Board

Trump is so unpopular that El-Sayed might win in November. But the Michigan candidate carries a lot of baggage.

Democratic primary voters in Michigan just made it harder for their party to flip the Senate.

Abdul El-Sayed struggled mightily with the working-class voters he claims his policies would help. The Bernie Sanders acolyte badly underperformed pre-primary polls to eke out a victory in Tuesday’s Senate primary with less than 50 percent. A win is a win, but he carries heavy baggage into the general election.

El-Sayed benefited from the strongly anti-establishment mood in the Democratic ranks to defeat Rep. Haley Stevens. Other Michigan races showed that this cycle remains perilous for incumbents: Rep. Shri Thanedar lost to a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. He is the sixth Democratic congressman toppled by a primary challenger.

Stevens had support from outgoing Sen. Gary Peters and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. El-Sayed campaigned with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) and live-streamer Hasan Piker, who has said “America deserved 9/11.”

While El-Sayed rejects the “socialist” label, he campaigned on Medicare-for-all, opposition to Israel, raising taxes on the wealthy and abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Meanwhile, two moderate candidates divided the vote in Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, allowing the co-founder of the Sunrise Movement to win the Democratic nomination in a key battleground.

El-Sayed’s victory is the culmination of a progressive uprising that began a decade ago with Sanders, who won an unexpected upset over Hillary Clinton in Michigan’s 2016 Democratic primary. Joe Biden’s win over Sanders there in 2020, just as covid-19 shut down campaigning, put him on the glidepath to the nomination. But Democratic activists in Michigan and elsewhere came to deeply resent party leaders for clearing the field so Biden could run again in 2024, despite obviously not being up for...

IOW he’s a communist and anti semite but ok with us because Trump.

If they had an ounce of integrity they’d say vote for his opponent.

But they are as scummy as the candidate.

🚨 WOW! MSNOW is now PANICKING after Democrat voters told her they're voting Mike Rogers (R) because Abdul El Sayed (D) became the MI Senate nominee

“Some Democrats I've talked to...on the plane this morning a guy said to me, ‘I'm anxious...’ he said, ‘I voted for Haley Stevens...in fact, if he wins, I will be voting for MIKE ROGERS.’”

LFG 🔥🔥

A poll found 57% of stevens voters would not vote for the New Axos of Evil candide. And Blacks broke for Stevens.

Registered Democrats are not going to vote for a Republican candidate. That is only wishful thinking by Republicans.

The best that can happen is that "moderate" Democrats will not vote at all. The same would be true for "moderate" Independent voters. Turnout from the base is what matters.

The warning from this situation is that the extremists are the ones who will dominate the elections. That is true for the Republicans just as much as for the Democrats.

All the extremists need do is avoid foaming-at-the-mouth rants while on camera. Acting calm and sane while articulating harsh positions is the key acting skill.

Does anyone have a count of how many DSA members have gotten elected?

It would be interesting to compare that to the peak representation of communists — out and out CPUSA members — in Congress. But that’s probably impossible because virtually all the communists sailed themselves under false flags.

Dems are really working overtime to nominate the dregs of humanity.

First Maine nominates the Nazi pedo Platner. Then the DNC Politburo puts up Troy Jackson, who had two kids with a woman who’s his second cousin. Yes…it’s ok…you just threw up a little in your mouth. https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4390179/posts

Now this raging anti-Semite is the nominee in the same state where the Dem AG (who’s Jewish) feels unsafe in her own party’s convention. https://freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/4390036/posts

There is a fortune to be made in building a composite Dem image of a consanguineous Nazi Pedo Socialist.

“Trump is so unpopular”

Unpopular for WHAT? America first? Closing the border? Arresting criminals? Protecting women and girls. Strong defense? Stopping the Iranian nuclear program? Building pro-American allies all over Latin America? A strong economy? Massive foreign direct investment in the USA? Re-shoring jobs?

If they want unpopular, wait until we get full blown communism and even more virulent antisemitism. Al-Sayed would have every Jew wearing a yellow star in a year and get gas chambers built if he could. Just like Mamdani. Wait until all private property and businesses are confiscated, appropriated and nationalized. Wait until your life savings are taken “for the greater good.”

At the same point in his (completely bogus) presidency, Joe Biden was at 39%. Trump is currently at 39.6% (https://ballotpedia.org/Ballotpedia%27s_Polling_Index:_Comparison_of_opinion_polling_during_the_Trump_and_Biden_administrations).

And of course, Biden had slavering, tongue-bathing media coverage, while Trump is under constant assault by the whores in the msm (not to mention many of the whores in the republican’t party).
