Poor Troy Jackson.
He can’t buy a serious ticket to a U.S. Senate seat without first enduring a ribald ribbing on social media.
X users were having more fun laughing over Troy’s marital partnership with his second cousin than attendees at an American Legion bean supper in Allagash, Maine pop. 240.
After Maine Wire chief editor Steve Robinson reported that the former state senate president is attached to his second cousin, with whom he has two kids, all bets were off for X users.
“His favorite dating app is 23AndMe,” PoliMath joked on X.
“Sydney Sweeney eat your heart out,” suggested CerealKiller. “Troy Jackson has similar genes to the mother of his children.”
@Storm_Paglia found it humorous that Jackson was dishing out dating advice from his dinner table in Washington. “Everyman Mainer eating at an elitist DC restaurant one block from the White House,” Stormy tweeted.
As for marriage between cousins, @Kyle_Beckley offered, “She is my second cousin, once removed.” Once removed? What does that mean? “My uncle pulled me off her.”
Substackers were also getting in on the fun with a little additional X-rated humor, no pun intended.
HandsomePristinePatriot offered this gem:
“Know what a girl from Allagash says after sex?
“’Get off me Dad, you’re crushing my smokes.’”
Jackson even found some incestuous sympathy on X, where poster @BillyBobWalter1 said, “I’m no Troy Jackson fan but..having kids with your 2nd cousin up there is probably pretty common.”
In other words, consanguinity is a common denominator in the tiny town of Allagash, where everything is apparently relative.

When this story broke, some FReepers were ok with Jackson’s choice.
What is fascinating - and absolutely creepy - is comparing some of the FReeper support with comments to a Daily Beast article on this saga: https://www.thedailybeast.com/maine-democrat-troy-jackson-had-two-kids-with-second-cousin/#user-comments
To the extent that the left has no morals or ethics, I would EXPECT the DB comments to be full of spin. I added some FReeper comments…see if you can distinguish between the two camps:
“ Second cousins are far removed. No issues with it.”
“ …2nd cousins marry or have children out of wedlock all the time, it’s not uncommon nor genetically risky nor illegal ...”
“ He’s from a tiny town. Every woman there likely to be a second cousin.
“ What’s the big deal? There’s very likely hundreds of thousands, if not millions married unknowingly to second cousins. So what?‘
“ This is silly. Does anyone really care??”
“ Second cousin is fine IMHO. In a big family you might have 50 second cousins”
When FR and Daily Beast commenters start sounding like kissing cousins…..
The raghead from Minnesota has him beat.
It’s kind of a non-story, so you’d expect comments to be about the same.
Isn’t there a 1950s-1960s Elvis movie that explains all this?
And they give southern states a hard time. It’s those in-bred Dagon fish-people in New England that folks should be making fun of.
In Maine, screwing a “second” cousin is considered hooking up with an exotic girl. Like a Polock bedding a Brazilian.
It’s all relative, I meant to add…
If a husband and wife in Arkansas get divorced, are they still considered brother and sister?
I don’t care who you are, that’s funny!
"What if something like that happened?
Basically, you know, if the kid was retarded, I would, you know, drive it up to the country and just, like, you know, open the door and say, “You’re free now.” You know, like, “Run free.”"
Better to go throw some stones at Einstein and Darwin, who both married their First Cousins.
A 2nd cousin is still a cousin. The left would run with it even more if they could. It’s like grasping for straws but this is a bit more so you get what you can out of it.
I’m more concerned with the gift of gabbers that women will take off their pants for, some of which are republican. Think BJ. He was smart enough to invent ‘soccer moms’ in front of the entire nation. Our radio hero, the big fella said Bill Clinton was a ‘once in a century’ politician. Fast forward to the 21st century. We get the Kenyan, NY gets Mamdani and now Michigan is giving us Al Sayed. All are cut from the same cloth. Then you get the failures like John Edwards. They will keep coming out. Their opening comes when there’s a ‘crisis’ they can exploit weather it’s the ‘worst economy in the last 50 years’ or covid. Don’t forget military stalemates in Iraq and Iran.
Marriage between cousins of various degrees was common in early America and the early U.S. Among many people it wasn’t considered improper. There are probably such unions in my own past; and most likely in the backgrounds of some of our founders and presidents.

“If you go to a family reunion to pick up women, you might be a redneck.”
The Marquesas-a 2 day boat ride from Tahiti. Plenty of remote folks with palsy amongst them due to intermarrying. I often thought it would be best to place American babies there who escaped the abortion mills. Polynesians are very family oriented.
As someone else posted, it depends on how frequent and how close it is.
