Army Lays Groundwork for First Military Executions Since 1961

Nidal Hasan remains incarcerated on death row at the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. His death sentence was upheld by a military court in 2023 [after all appeals were processed],

The last U.S. military execution occurred April 13, 1961, when Army Pvt. John A. Bennett was hanged after being convicted of rape and attempted murder.

Nidal Hasan, Ronald Gray, Hasan Akbar, and Timothy Hennis are prisoners currently sentenced to death in the military system. They were imprisoned based on the following crimes:

<<>> Nidal Hasan was sentenced to death in 2013 after killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009.

<<>> Gray was convicted by general court-martial of 14 charges, including premeditated murder, attempted murder and three rapes.

<<>> Akbar was sentenced to death in 2005 after a grenade and shooting attack killed Army Capt. Christopher Seifert and Air Force Maj.

<<>> Hennis was sentenced to death in 2010 after a military trial for a 1985 triple murder.

The main holdup is built into military law. Article 71 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice says a court-martial death sentence “may not be executed until approved by the president,” and it also bars execution until appellate review produces a final judgment on the legality of the proceedings, a process that can take decades.

-- What the Army Is Preparing -- The Army plan is called “Operation Resolute Justice” and involves coordination with the Federal Bureau of Prisons for possible executions at the federal prison complex in Terre Haute, Ind.

The plan outlines procedures for transferring condemned prisoners from the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., to Terre Haute, arranging a viewing station for witnesses and coordinating with federal prison officials. Terre Haute has housed all the federal government's executions since 2001.

I was wondering if Nidal Hasan the mass murderer of Fort Hood was still alive. Hasan was mentored by Anwar al-Awlaki (who also communicated with 911 hijackers) at the Dar al-Hijrah Mosque located in Seven Corners, Falls Church, Virginia.

Convict Hasan didn’t win that lottery. He won’t need a wheelchair to hang though.

Can someone PLEASE challenge the autopen pardons and commutations issued by the mentally diminished Biden, especially from his last days?

Chris Seifert was a helluva Soldier. He didn’t even get to jump the berm. Convict Akbar deserves a rope too.
