US said weighing pulling troops from Saudi Arabia amid major tensions with Riyadh over Iran war

US-Saudi relations have significantly deteriorated in recent months amid anger in Riyadh over Washington’s decision to launch a war against Iran that has caused massive blowback for the rest of the region, a Middle Eastern intelligence official tells The Times of Israel, confirming a Wall Street Journal report.

Saudi Arabia refused to allow the US to use its bases in order to conduct Project Freedom, which was aimed at breaking Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz by escorting stuck ships out of the channel.

Saudi bases and airspace were critical to the operation and Riyadh’s refusal to cooperate forced the US to abort the mission, the WSJ reveals. At the time, US President Donald Trump claimed that it was progress in talks with Iran that led him to call off Project Freedom after less than two days.

Infuriated by the Saudi decision, the White House threatened to hold back the delivery of interceptors that Riyadh had been using to shoot down Iranian missiles and drones, WSJ says, citing US and Arab officials familiar with the matter.

Riyadh subsequently relented and Project Freedom resumed covertly, but the damage wouldn’t be easily undone, US officials say.

Let thrm join NATO. SA has about the same usefulness as our allies denying the US using military bases or airspace transit. /SPIT

Either true or false - this article paints Trump in a bad light once again as he cannot maintain good relations with others in our shared fight against Iran.

the notion that the US launched a war against Iran without direct and detailed involvement from the Govt of Saudi Arabia is absurd.

Iran is attacking gulf states to get them mad at the US and they’re falling for it

Yep, all reports were that bin Salman enthusiastically lobbied Trump to take on Iran. And the Saudis didn’t deny the reports until Iranian missiles started flying their way and causing some major damage. Untrustworthy “allies,” unsurprisingly.

Iran has attacked 20 of our military sites across 8 countries in the Middle East.

Iran is attacking gulf states because they host U.S. military bases being used to attack Iran.

If Caribbean states were hosting bases that somebody used to directly attack us, do you think we’d do nothing about it?

Ever ask yourself why American soldiers swear an oath to defend our Constitution, then get sent to the other side of the world to defend kings who deny their own people the rights we enshrine in the Constitution?

Our first president from the CIA put this country’s foreign policy on an absolutely disastrous path. All we have to show for it is domestic spying and trillions in extra debt.

While I tried to warm up to MBZ the crown prince who is reportedly pretty much the dictator-de-facto given the elder age of the king,
the simple reality is that nothing the Saudi “government” says is reliable. They have many talents but truth and transparency are way off their menus. And they are CERTAINLY not allies of America!

Having vented all that, I am uncertain just how much we should best withdraw from the place. I’ll leave this up to the WashDC experts. We’ve built some very good facility there and the Saudi rulers would just as well give it over to the Communist Chinese if it were to go Vacant

The one place I am solidly sure about is to draw down our deployment and get our nukes the H out of Turkey! Turkey is a very aggressive, provocative and HOSTILE regime now under Erdagan ... he is dangerous to most of his neighbors and he still hosts, gives safe sanctuary to terrorist murder gangsters of current note. Someday the Turks will manage to restore a decent, moral government again, I am confident. Right now, Turkey is in the lead for regimes that are most likely to provoke a real, HOT WW3. We need to get our critical weapons OUT of there. There are several other countries ... all with more stable and saner governments... that could host whatever we need deployed in the area. The risk of leaving them in today’s Turkey is simply unnecessary.

I understand that some people feel that Israel is an ally that causes trouble for us.
For the record: I support Israel and I avoid criticizing them.

We do have other allies in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia is one.
But I do criticize these so-called allies, including Saudi Arabia. They just never seem to do anything for us.

Iran is a huge, mountainous country. American “boots on the ground”? I have no interest in that. But what about our “allies”? Why don’t all of our Arab allies send in their troops to Iran and take care of business? We could provide logistical support. Of course, this won’t happen, because our allies are not really allies.

I increasingly feel that we should ignore the Middle East totally. And perhaps let them know that if they strike the US, our first response will be a nuke. Leave us alone and we will leave them alone.

They’re worried about payback-worried we won’t succeed. They should be more worried about the strait being closed. We fill the vacuum and their oil production goes down or os not needed. They should rebuild the World Trade Center just the way it was. Put the UN there and fill it with illegals-a good detention center.
