War is never something the United States should engage in without very good cause. Too many of our past wars might have involved some bit of national interest, but they weren't really necessary. Kicking the crap out of Afghanistan following the Taliban's refusal to hand over Osama bin Laden? I got that completely. I was less thrilled with us going into Iraq.
My take has always been that we should be slow to anger, but when we hit that point, we should descend upon our enemies like the fiery hand of God.
It's what we did in the Gulf War, and we could have turned Iraq into the 51st state if we wanted to, with how lopsided that war went, and now we're doing it again in Iran. After 47 years of facilitating terrorist attacks against Americans, they had it coming.
In just a few weeks, we've destroyed their Navy and Air Force, gutted their leadership structure, and basically done whatever we wanted to....
We've killed more members of the Iranian leadership than we've lost troops in total.
And yet, if you go on X, it's not difficult to find plenty of people telling us that we're losing. They'll claim that Iran shot down an F-35 or that they hit one of our warships, and it's taken as proof that we're getting our posteriors handed to us by the Iranian military.
Y'all, if this is losing, then what exactly would winning look like in these people's world?

Hopefully the Immortal Guard is ready.
Actually still using expensive weapons to blow up stuff, at this point, is disturbing. We should be using 20 mm cannon fire and dumb bombs by now. What gives?
In my opinion it is a “win” when the USA has control of the 400kg of uranium that Iran allegedly has
Winning that battle. The infiltration of Islamic barbarians worldwide? It’s a long war.
There was never a doubt in my mind that we’d win militarily. It’s what happens after the military victory that should be of concern.
In my opinion it is a “win” when a tanker carrying oil and with a daycare center for the children of the crew can sail through the Strait of Hormuz without having to worry about being blown up.
War is almost always a stupid choice.
World War II is about the only exception to that, imo.
Here you go.
Be nice to be able to park New Jersey off their coastline and get target practice - but those days are over.
Amen.
We’ve flattened everything and killed everyone that matters.
Except the enriched uranium.
Not done yet.
And I have no idea how to solve that problem.
The military and not amateur Monday morning quarterbacks are running the war
I’m of the opinion that dumb bombs are dumb.
Better to strap a JDAM guidance package on a dumb bomb and hit the square meter you want to.
We are apparently running out of dumb bombs, according to the $200,000,000,000.00 military funding package being requested. So we ought to carefully use what we’ve got as upgraded smart bombs.
I get the usefulness of dumb bombs to break the enemy’s will. Germans in WWII could have their industrial cities carpet bombed. Either you hit the factory as intended, or you hit their workers’ homes next door. Effective either way.
But we don’t have that problem (an implacable populace) in Iran that needs a mental tune up. They’re mostly (80%, by the most accurate surveys) on our side.
So, let’s do other stuff rather than carpet bomb with dumb bombs. I get your frustration, but let’s continue to maximize the effect of what we’ve got.
With A-10s and Apaches on station we basically are 30 Mike Mike for A-10😂
Neither do I :) we can only pray that things improve
I firmly believe that a FREE Iran would be, once more, an ally of Israel
Iran has no reason to be an enemy of Israel if we take out the religious factor - and even in the case of the religious factor, they are Shia (well, mainly agnostics now), so why hang on to the hate when the Sunni majority states in the Gulf are actually recognizing Israel?
No, I was talking about tactical ground strikes with iron bombs like the a-6 intruder used to do. The f-16 excels at that too. Stop wasting high end ordinance. The AF is lazy. How did you think I said carpet bomb?
The remaining UK WWII vets unfortunately would disagree
The only people who said we are losing are morons who are Anti-American Democrats...
We may be winning but politics and the Democrats will make sure we lose and the GOP sit back and watch with their thumbs up their ass. Could be the new politicians slush fund.
New contracts for defense moguls.
