WASHINGTON, Feb 19 (Reuters) - The U.S. trade deficit widened sharply in December amid a surge in imports, and the goods shortfall in 2025 was the highest on record despite President Donald Trump's tariffs on foreign manufactured merchandise. The trade gap ballooned 32.6% to $70.3 billion, the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis and Census Bureau said on Thursday. Economists polled by Reuters forecast the trade deficit would contract to $55.5 billion. The trade deficit narrowed 0.2% to $901.5 billion in 2025. The goods trade gap widened 2.1% to an all-time high of $1.24 trillion.

Wonder if this is because a lot of companies were trying to front load orders in 2025 ahead of the tariffs

What is the difference between "trade deficit" and "goods trade gap". I thought they were the same.

Just more LSM sleight of hand, cherry pick a month and say orange man bad, the truth is the trade deficit for 2025 was
lower than for 2024, so once Trump got in office, he lowered the deficit, not let’s see what happens in 2026.

Don’t let the LSM curate your facts for you, remember they always lie.

Since America crybabies are telling their toadies in the “media” that they don’t have any money, who the hell is buying up all these foreign goods? Oh crap, I forgot the illegal alien invaders all have bottomless ATM cellphones that the government gave them. You can see them shopping while pushing empty baby carriages and wearing their brand new Nikes in any store in America. They are keeping the foreign garbage coming in and selling out fast with our tax dollars.

I haven’t bought a thing in the last 12 months. No electronics, no toys, no nothing. I paid my taxes, though.

I think it divides raw materials and manufactured goods. China for the most part sends the US the latter. Trade deficit sounds like it covers all items and goods trade might narrow it down to factory made stuff.

Yes, and the tariffs do not work instantly.
Unfortunately, for the last 40 years, the production of everything was moving out of the USA.
It takes a lot of time to undo that!
Building factories, hiring people, setting production.

Plus, the rest of the world is in crisis.
US is the only country expanding.
That means that the foreign producers are desperate to dump their stuff, regardless of tariffs!

Did not brag, just showed how the facts get manipulated, that difference is way more than the amount Rooters is making an issue of in December, so you would have to admit Dec is a small difference as well then.
