New York City Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani holds a 20-point lead over his closest opponent, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, in a Suffolk University CityView poll released this week.
The survey, which includes likely voters in November’s general election, shows Mamdani in the lead with 45 percent support, followed by Cuomo with 25 percent, Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa with 9 percent and incumbent Mayor Eric Adams with 8 percent. Cuomo and Adams are running as independents.
Three other candidates — Conservative Party nominee Irene Estrada, independent Joseph Hernandez and independent Jim Walden — earn a combined 1 percent support.
Nine percent of voters said they are undecided, and 3 percent refused to say.
Asked about the top issue in the race, 21 percent said affordability; 20 percent said crime; 14 percent said economy and jobs; 9 percent said housing; 8 percent said “local response to [President] Trump initiatives”; 7 percent said racism, justice and equality; and 6 percent said schools and education. Other issues polled less than 4 percent.
A slim majority, at 51 percent, said life in New York City is “somewhat or very unaffordable.” Fifty-eight percent, meanwhile, said the economy is worse under President Trump, while 23 percent said it was worse under former President Biden.
More than half, at 56 percent, said they reject accusations that Mamdani is antisemitic.

But it is tiring to hear, with every Mayor, that “this is the End of NYC.” Recent NYC Mayors:
Edward I. Koch 1978-1989
David N. Dinkins 1990-1993
Rudolph W. Giuliani 1994-2001
Michael R. Bloomberg 2002-2013
Bill de Blasio 2014-2021
Eric L. Adams 2022-
NYC was supposed to become like Detroit with every mayor after Giuliani (who, back in the day, was a pro-gay, anti-gun RINO in the minds of many around here). Covid was to accelerate its demise. And yet, it’s still thriving.
Follow the money. NYC is a well-known left wing metropolis with finance, advertising, media, and the arts being HQ’d there.
Until those hosts leave bigly, the parasites will keep feeding.
It’s also worth noting that as NYC got “worse,” Trump came to power and MAGA and Deplorables became the zeitgeist. Perhaps Mamdani winning will propel a Vance 2028 campaign.
i think they’re rigging the polls to make a republican jump ship. i think adams will win in the end.
New Yorkers have been groomed to expect free stuff at every turn so i say give it to them and let the party play on till the money runs out and will not take long.
New York City like Los Angeles it’s more like a landing area for illegals then a city it’s why both have gone to hell.
The 20 point lead people are the people that don’t pay taxes just get taxpayer money ,LOL
“But it is tiring to hear, with every Mayor, that “this is the End of NYC.” “
NYC is filled with people who are ignorant. They deserve every bit of what’s coming with Mamdani. I am going to take pleasure listening to the whines an cries coming from a decaying city.
You’re probably right, NYC will survive this. However, as a retiree in the heartland, my view of NYC is it’s a craphole that I wouldn’t visit on a bad bet. I don’t think I’m alone in that perception, or that it’s good for NYC to be seen that way.
NYC and other large cities are dinosaurs that no longer serve a useful purpose.
Those who have street smarts have fled.
Those that remain are like cattle staying on a farm with open gates.
They will get what they will get.
You’re not alone.
I think it’s a slam-dunk that there are at the very least hundreds of thousands of us that would never set foot in that septic tank of sub-humanity.
Same for LA and Chicago.
Sorry, but you’re dreaming. Mamdani is going to win in a blowout. Its not even going to be close. The young progressives who have moved to New York will vote him in, and then will get their wake up call over the next four years.
I’m supposed to give AS that the liberal-lefty mecca will elect a commie for mayor? Nope, can’t happen soon enough.
“Asked about the top issue in the race, 21 percent said affordability; 20 percent said crime; 14 percent said economy and jobs”
Mamdani is a democrat socialist. So, theres no way hes going to reduce crime, the cost of living, improve the economy and reduce unemployment. To the contrary, if hes elected, the crime rate and the cists of living will rise, and the economy will be strangled.
Gonna turn it into the new east Berlin.
Gonna turn it into the new east Berlin.
How can Silwa only be getting 9%?
It’s just so easy when you are 40 floors above the fray...
Looks like NYC voters have forgotten. 😪
Looks like NYC voters have forgotten. 😪
So they’ve totally forgotten 9/11???
Remember THIS, FReepers?:
Generally I don’t believe polls.
But if polls say NYC voters are overwhelming backing America’s answer to Sadiq Khan, then I tend to believe them.
