House Republicans threaten to cancel anyone who disparages Charlie Kirk
Washington Post via MSN ^ | Sep 16, 2025 | Kadia Goba, Katie Tarrant

Republicans in Congress are launching an aggressive campaign to punish individuals they accuse of posthumously smearing Charlie Kirk, threatening to bring them before lawmakers, defund entities that protect them and oust them from positions of power.

They are also trying to castigate one of their own.

On Monday evening, two House Republicans introduced resolutions to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) and remove her from her congressional committees for comments she made about the conservative influencer during an interview with liberal commentator Mehdi Hasan. During the interview, Omar expressed “empathy” for Kirk’s wife and children but also chastised those who “completely pretend” that the conservative influencer just wanted a “civil debate,” pointing to his views on guns, slavery and George Floyd. Omar also reposted a video to X from an anonymous user that called Kirk a “reprehensible human being” who was “spewing racist dog whistles” in his “last, dying words.”

One resolution, from Rep. Nancy Mace (R-South Carolina), was introduced under special rules requiring it to come to the floor by Thursday, though it’s unclear whether it will pass. The other is from Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Georgia) and seeks to remove Omar from the House Budget Committee and Education Committee......

The First Amendment generally prohibits the state from using a penalty, or the credible threat of a penalty, to retaliate against protected speech, experts added.

“It is the very purpose of the First Amendment to prevent the government from using state power to determine the bounds of acceptable discourse with respect, in particular, to people’s moral views about what is permissible or impermissible to speak, with a few exceptions,” said Aziz Huq, a professor of constitutional law at the University of Chicago.

As a conservative I don't want government overreach, which having congress make laws limiting speech (even so called hate speech) is dangerous. So while I think it's deplorable, callus, uncivilized, etc. to celebrate Charlie Kirk's death, I believe it covered by the first amendment.

However, direct threats, advocating violence, encouraging lawlessness can cross the line. But it can be a slippery slope. Remember Thomas Becket and King Henry.

The Democrat Party *is* a Terrorist Organization, or at the very least, Communist.

People aren’t getting canceled for being against Kirk. Thats silliness. But if you’re celebrating murder, that can get you into trouble, not bc of your politics, but bc of your character. Imagine someone partying and celebrating after 9/11 attacks. Imagine some celebrating after JFK or MLK assassinations. No one wants to be around a person like that because you come across as both unstable and d threatening. My advice, be any political stripe you want. No one cares, but revel in murder and you’ll likely get fired bc you’ve got serious problems.

Re “… No one wants to be around a person like that because you come across as both unstable and d threatening...”

That’s why they stick together; they ARE threatening and unstable.

They were just peachy fine and dandy when Jughead was using Fedzilla against us for even the most minor criticism (remember the rodeo clown with te Obunghole mask?)… and then all of harassment in his third term with Potato Joey?

Let them cry. Hope they’re losing sleep over it.

The started this war, and went kinetic in Butler PA. Thankfully they missed there.

Charlie was a damned decent American patriot and damned decent human being; he didn’t deserve to be murdered.

So if we have use Fedzilla to help prevent more political murders, im fine with it.

What good is a government that can’t protect its own Citizens?

Your point is spot on.

~~~~~~
The 1st Amendment prohibits government from punishing non-threatening speech. It does not require that government provide Omar with a platform to spew her hatred. Take it outside, witch.
Omar was fine with her own statements, but reposting a tweet that labels someone racist, could be rightly perceived as reflecting her own opinion of any Conservative Christian, thereby creating the aura of a ‘hostile work environment’ not only for her staff but also those staff and officials she may interact with. Speech that foments a hostile environment is not ‘protected’ speech.
As to George Floyd, Kirk said what many of us believe, Floyd was no angel (8 arrests, in and out of jail), having overdosed the prior month, was overdosing at the time of his arrest for passing conterfeit money, was saying he couldn’t breathe before being subjected to a restraint taught by the PD (that now is not being used). Kirk also said that the racial politics by Left after Floyd died was led by “corrupt and disingenuous voices”. Now that may conflict with the Saint George picture the Left forcefed the Black community in order to capitalize on Floyd’s death, but it is truth. Truth also is Kirk saying of course, Floyd didn’t deserve to die. The Left tends to leave that part off when criticizing Kirk for daring to mention Floyd’s name.
“So while I think it’s deplorable, callus, uncivilized, etc. to celebrate Charlie Kirk’s death, I believe it covered by the first amendment.”
It certainly is...and so are the CONSEQUENCES for those actions, which include job losses and funding losses, but NOT jailing people, as they do in the UK, for example.
BECAUSE THEY ARE LYING and liars should ALWAYS be called out. That they are purposely defaming a good man doesn’t make it any different.
As to Omar, that POS, she should be kicked back to her mud hut in Somalia on the toe of our boot.
Oh the irony. The wacko brother wife is cloaking herself in the First Amendment to justify killing someone who was exercising the First Amendment.
I know that the Democrats started punishing people for comments they found distasteful or offensive, but that doesn’t justify our joining in. As good as it may feel, it’s still not right. It will perpetuate if we don’t stop it here.
Sorry, that does not compute.
The second sentence is the complete opposite of the first.
Ilhan Omar is not republican, and she's not one of our own, and she's not even American.
