An owner’s home is his property, not the government’s. Yet many Ohioans are paying more in property taxes than on the principal & interest payments on their mortgage. That’s un-American & we’re going to fix it once I’m in charge.

As long as there are property taxes, you don’t own your home. You are renting it from the government.
Glad to see Vivek run for Governor in Ohio.
Good answer but not ask Effective as Trumps, “Gotta get em down, way down”
My rent to the government costs me $38.78 per day...365 a year.
“..As long as there are property taxes, you don’t own your home. You are renting it from the government....”
Exactly. Of all the taxes foisted upon us, Property taxes are the most insideous and evil there is. Legalized shake-down/outright theft is what it is...
Off the shoulder is one thing, down to your elbow is another. I bet if that old ladies nipples were sagging even lower she’d have pushed the top of the dress down more, soon to be belly button territory.
“As long as there are property taxes, you don’t own your home. You are renting it from the government.”
Stupid analogy.
No capital gain profits if you rent.
I’m in Alabama. Property taxes are nowhere near yours. That said...we have 5% income tax. The last few years I’ve paid more in state income tax than fed. I’m retired so most of it is capital gains.
It’s mostly the damn school taxes.
Clark county announced there will be a 32% increase in property valuations.
> Property taxes are the most insidious and evil there is. <
And it hits retired folks particularly hard. They might have a pension plus Social Security. That could hopefully cover food, medicine, utilities, and upkeep on the property.
But then there are the property taxes. That can run into the thousands of dollars.
There’s got to be another way.
Property taxes on private homes is the most obscene tax of all.
Needs to be totally abolished.
I heard that school levies are for a fixed amount. If levy generates $10 million per year the millage is adjusted across homeowners and business owners to total $10 million.
If they build hundreds of apartments, between levy adjustments they also pay the tax, but everything in excess of $10 million goes to the state general fund. Kids in apartments go to school too, but schools eat the cost until next levy.
What I can’t understand is why do school levies keep increasing in districts that are generating EXCESS TAX REVENUE? The district should be able to tap that revenue stream instead of the state pissing it away.
I was told the state uses the excess funds for “poor” districts. I wonder what else is funded with the Excess? I could be totally Wrong but this ain’t right if true.
Damn Bro, that's a lot of scratch!!

I will ignore your unnecessary slur, and instead investigate your comment further. You are correct in that owning a house can lead to a hefty gain when you sell.
But what about the older person who has no plans to sell? He just wants to live out the rest of his life in his own home. I suppose he could look into reverse mortgages, or some other such scheme.
I think it better that he not be squeezed.
I’m actually in favor of some sort of value-added tax to replace arbitrary real estate taxes. The trick of course is to keep the politicians from going crazy with that tax.
I won’t be voting for this fraud. I love these farm kids in rural Ohio and their 4H clubs. Who in the hell in rural Ohio would vote for a vegan. I read today he wants to increase the population in Ohio by the end of his term from 11 million to 15 million, unbeliveable. Welcome even more farm land turned into low income multiplex housing. There are complexes now in Western Ohio with 25 FOOT setbacks between buildings. F’n sick. That’s exactly what is going to happen to the rural portions of the state.
My house has appreciated $125k in 6 years. That is $20,000 gain per year. In last 6 years I paid $15,000 in property tax plus $6000 HOA. SO $125K gain Versus $21k expense.
Yes, DeWino is pissing away money like a drunk sailor. Liberal POS.

Ramaswamy has some interesting ideas.
But he’s a big fan of the Trans-Pacific Partnership. The TPP would help gut what’s left of America’s middle class. Trump realized that, and he cancelled the TPP soon after he took office.
So I guess it comes down to who is worse, Ramaswamy or his opponents.
