In this week's air travel developments, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is working on new procedures for arriving international passengers that would eliminate the need to recheck their bags for a domestic connecting flight, and even end the requirement to submit to another security check; .... two Republican senators introduce a bill to get rid of the TSA; a new survey compares the experiences of TSA PreCheck members with those of nonmembers; Southwest might be worrying about the impact of its business model changes on its bottom line; Denver International relocates check-in facilities for 24 airlines; Portland International gets a new Escape Lounge; Delta opens the eighth Sky Club at its Atlanta hub.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection said this week it is working with American Airlines to test a new procedure that could save time and aggravation for inbound travelers who are connecting to a U.S. domestic flight at their international arrival airport. Called the International Remote Baggage Screening initiative, it would eliminate the need for arriving passengers to recheck their bags onto their domestic connection "unless specifically referred by CBP for further inspection," the agency said. Instead, the bags would be transferred directly from the international flight to the airline operating the domestic connection.
According to CBP, its agents "can now view the same checked baggage x-ray images captured at the foreign international airport and review them remotely before the aircraft lands. This proactive approach enables CBP to assess potential security risks more effectively and expedites the processing of arriving flights," the agency said in a news release Tuesday, adding that the new initiative "does not change the current Transportation Security Administration (TSA) screening requirements or process for checked baggage."

Number of terrorists apprehended by TSA after 20+ years: 0
Number of illegal’s flying without TSA inspection or ID’s vs number of US citizens having to provide ID and be inspected?
adios the TSA...then...they get hired by the new guys ?
I am going totally outside the box here.
Think of how a small group of Arab terrorists in the 9/11 incidents caused much more destruction than many battles in Mideast wars by changing the behavior of tens of millions of people ever after that day.
And that “shoe bomber”—one guy-—Richard Reid on December 22, 2001, causes everyone now to remove their shoes at airports. Millions of people. Due to one guy on one day.
No one can carry more than a small amount of various liquids, no nail scissors and so on.
All our lives have been changed by the evil of 19 terrorists (NYC, Pentagon, Pennsylvania) and one shoe bomber on a plane.
Gee, I wonder why SFO was exempted from having TSA perform security checks in favor of a private security company?
Thank goodness, I was getting tired of that big bull dyke squeezing my nads every time I board a commuter flight.
TSA: Thousands Standing Around
Something DID change in Phoenix as they seemed to have professionals manning the scanners vs the DEI employees of the last 10 years.
I don't think illegal aliens are currently being boarded on commercial flights in the US. I don't want anyone who can't be positively identified on aircraft in the US. I also want all voters positively identified when they vote. In Texas only Real ID drivers' licenses and ID cards have been issued since October 2016. Basically in order to vote in Texas, a registered voter must present a Real ID compliant photo ID just as a traveler who is flying on a commercial plane in the US must show a Real ID compliant ID.
I'm no fan of TSA but we need to tread carefully here. Before 911 and the establishment of TSA the private contractors routinely were hiring illegal aliens to do our screening.
Border Patrol was arresting them at every airport where they were doing enforcement operations. We can contract screening out but CBP must be in charge of training, vetting and ensuring security.
They could do away with with most airport security by simply having every flier step on a Quran as they boarded. Musdogs won’t do that
thanx....interesting and i get it.
How are they going to handle people who made duty free purchases of wine or liquor. Currently you place it in your checked bag before proceeding to your connecting flight.
It will all have to be carried on the domestic flight.

The 9-11 suicides on the planes went to strip clubs in Las Vegas and drank alcohol prior to their mission, as I recall.
It would be nice if it were as easy as you suggest.
Airport security is a joke. Every time I fly back into, the U.S., none of the foreign airports require the belt and shoe rule. So I guess it’s alright for terrorists flying out of Rome to JFK to pack C4 in their shoes.
Even though I fly bizjets I still carry a passport and an Enhanced ID drivers license.
I no longer fly for a number of reasons.
TSA is numero uno.
Customs should allow a free gallon of booze upon return to the USA.
I always say the terrorists won on 9/11. The terror act caused our overlords to change our entire way of life and deprive us of many freedoms and a great deal of personal privacy.
If an airport wants to get rid of the TSA,
there is an expensive but legal way to go private.
We have the TSA because we have so many “Karens” that are so afraid of the real world they gladly submit to being treated like cattle.
My response to the 9/11 hijacking would have been way different. There would no longer be ANY non-vetted, non citizen Moslems in the USA. I’m picking on Moslems because they are the only “major” religion that believes killing, enslaving, and raping non-believers is perfectly OK.
I take the Genghis Khan point of view.
Play nice, pay taxes, you can keep your society.
fight with me and you all die.
