The Senate passed a bipartisan bill Friday that will permanently classify fentanyl-related substances, also known as fentanyl analogs, as Schedule I substances under the Controlled Substances Act.
The HALT Fentanyl Act passed with overwhelming support, earning 84 Senate votes while 16 opposed it. The bill aims to close loopholes exploited by drug traffickers who smuggle substances with chemical compositions similar to fentanyl but are different enough to evade legal penalties.
"What this bill does — it says, 'OK, it's illegal to bring in fentanyl.' But it recognizes that some of those attempting to bring in fentanyl will try and circumvent the law by changing the fentanyl just enough so that it becomes what is called an analog," Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., the bill's sponsor and a former physician, told reporters Friday ahead of the bill's passage.

I’m amazed that many dems voted for it.
That party is essentially anti American....I guess the ones who voted for it didn’t get the memo yet.
“In the house, 107 Democrats voted against the bill along with one republican.”
All Shitocrats are drug addicts, or pushers. It’s why they want open borders. They need their dope. They also need a steady supply of children to molest and young women to assault.
Good move to add fentanyl analogs as a Schedule I drug and prosecute those who traffic or possess fentanyl in the same manner of those caught with cocaine, LSD, crack, or meth.

Or just mean and spiteful. If Trump is for something that’s obviously good for the country, many Democrats will automatically vote against it.
Trump: It would be a good idea to…
Democrats: I vote no!
Fentanyl is used in surgical and cancer patients. Doesn’t making it schedule I make it unable to be prescribed, like other Schedule I, such as heroin?
no it is not.
I was checking that pesky constitution thingie and I can’t find where the fed was granted the power to regulate drugs of any type..
Nor does the constitution say they can regulate drag queens from reading to children, men dressed as women competing in women’s sports.
I think the law is only for the analogs. The real drug manufactured under pharmaceutical standards and supply/distribution regulated is still available to hospitals. (And yes, it is used but I’m not sure about cancer but I do know someone who was given a dose during a massive heart attack).
But someone can double check me on both questions.
but of course...this kind of stuff doesn’t cross our national borders, nor crosses between state borders...
Thank you.
This power comes from the Commerce Clause in Article I, Section 8, Clause 3 of the U.S. Constitution, which grants Congress the authority
The first time I heard of a death from a heroin or derivative was around 2000 in California Bay Area.
It stuck in my head because I thought this drug had been removed from usage back in the 70’s.
It and its versions growth all map to the Bush Family and their involvement in Afghanistan.
More shocking is it took 25 years for anyone to start fighting against it.
Schedule 1 drugs are defined as not having any health use.
Like Heroine, LSD and marihuana!
Fentanyl was schedule II drug, which means there is some legit use. And , yes, hospitals use fentanyl in controlled way as potent painkiller.
So, to be honest, schedule 2 was actually fitting.
I hope this doesn’t result is us having to be carded to buy items containing precursors like is the case with over the counter antihistamines.
The very left wing of the Democrat Party voted against the bill. Fentanyl must help fund the Party.
From ChatGPT.
The exact precursors for fentanyl (like NPP and ANPP) are not found in OTC medications, but some base chemicals or functional groups are used in multiple legitimate chemical and pharmaceutical applications.
Yes. This is not good.
I don’t think this is a good idea because Schedule 1 means that there is no medical use for fentanyl when it is used daily in hospitals.
