Costco is increasing its pay to more than $30 an hour for hundreds of thousands of workers, with clerks at the top of the retailer's pay scale set to make almost $32 an hour in March.
Costco — which employs 272,000 people across the United States and in Canada — says its workers will soon receive hourly increases of 50 cents to one dollar, continuing its strategy of keeping ahead of the competition when it comes to worker compensation.

ummm. why?
Insane.
Do they need to be ‘dei’ certified to get the raise?
Take a guess when their prices and memberships go up to cover this because it certainly won’t come out of the C Suite’s pockets.
That wouldn’t surprise me at all.
I knew you’d beat me...
From the article:
“...its strategy of keeping ahead of the competition when it comes to worker compensation.”
Sounds like they have developed some sort of business strategy that will make them more competitive in the labor market.
By raising prices they increase membership fees by double and rid themselves of 3d world and ghetto dwellers who add nothing to the bottom line.
“says its workers will soon receive hourly increases of 50 cents to one dollar, continuing its strategy of keeping ahead of the competition when it comes to worker compensation.”
if you want the best you gotta pay for the best. And when you look at the actual amount of the raise it isn’t that much. It looks like 3% ish. That’s not keeping up with inflation.
Just another good reason to boycott them aside from the fact that Al Sharptooth the tax evader is encouraging their DEI program.
There is a Costco built near me about 15 years ago. I never spent one penny in the place and I’m proud of it.
Besides, I don’t need a 55 gallon drum’s worth of ketchup.
Why is raising the wage for your employees insane?
It seems they’re negotiating a new contract (?)
All I know is that the clerks at the Costco near me are excellent, and get you in and out very quickly and efficiently. No matter how long the line is, I don’t think I’ve waited much more that 6 or 8 minutes to check out; I’ve waited much longer in much shorter lines at the regular supermarket.
Those guys work hard and keep the line moving. The only thing that holds up the lines are the members fumbling for their Costco cards.
I find this thread mostly depressing.
Look, I realize that if everyone in America earns a million dollars a year, then a loaf of bread is going to cost $1000. That’s how inflation works.
But at the same time, wages have been flat for 50 years. The cost of cars, rent, homes, education, healthcare — all of those costs have increased dramatically for 50 years and more. And hardworking Americans just get poorer and poorer. Because the wages have not kept pace.
If Costco workers get a raise and can afford rent and can move out of Mom’s basement, I am not going to boo-hoo about that. I say this is a good thing.
You’re onto something.
You get what you pay for.
Home Depot for instance pays far less.
I was in one and asked an associate where something was. He said he was new, didn’t know, but that nobody stayed working there very long.
Looks like the Costco shoppers will be paying more. Betcha the higher prices get blamed on President Trump and the idiots at Costco will believe it.
It’s Costco’s business, no one else’s.
