YMCA singer Victor Willis has U-turned on his opposition to Donald Trump using the song in his rallies - while urging fans not to call it a 'gay anthem'.
The 73-year-old founding member of Village People band previously urged the incoming president to stop playing their 1978 disco hit at his political demos.
But on Sunday Willis changed his tune, saying he 'didn't have the heart' to continue fighting Trump's team after seeing how much the president-elect 'seems to genuinely like YMCA'. The airtime has pushed the song towards the top of the Billboard charts.

The funny thing is that in interviews, the guy who wrote the song has always insisted that he is straight and that he never meant for the song to be a gay anthem.
Interesting, most “non-conformist rebel” musicians are total shills for the status quo and backers of a steady creep towards tyranny these days.
How about “Sodomite Song”?
I’ve read that, too. Like the rainbow and the word gay itself the buggers steal and corrupt things.
I decided to use YMCA as my default ringtone for a while.
I am sure he gets royalties from people playing the song now.
Their costumes and affectations were the first big klaxon on the "gaydar."
“In the Navy” is the gay anthem
Money makes the world go around, a mark a yen, a buck or a pound, is all that makes the world go around, it makes the world go around.
In other words he’s making good money on the royalities.
Money has a way of changing a “creative artist’s” mind.At first, he objected to Trump using YMCA at his rallies in 2016 badmouthing Trump. Trump has resurrected him from the dead and put his 1978 hit and his other songs back on the Billboard charts for a second bigger payday. If I were Trumop, I would insist on half the royalties, not that he needs it, but because the guy was a snotty little bitch when he started playing the song at rallies
He also wrote “In the Navy.”
Upon inauguration POTUS 47 should use We Are the Champions - Queen.
It’s a gay anthem.
Exactly!
Nah, it should be “Wipe Out” by the Safaris
Village People Lyrics
“In The Navy”
Where can you find pleasure
Search the world for treasure
Learn science technology
Where can you begin to make your dreams all come true
On the land or on the sea
Where can you learn to fly
Play in sports and skin dive
Study oceanography
Sign up for the big band
Or sit in the grandstand
When your team and others meet
In the navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the navy
Come on now, people, make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
Can’t you see we need a hand
In the navy
Come on, protect the mother land
In the navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the navy
Come on people, and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)
They want you, they want you
They want you as a new recruit
If you like adventure
Don’t you wait to enter
The recruiting office fast
Don’t you hesitate
There is no need to wait
They’re signing up new seamen fast
Maybe you are too young
To join up today
But don’t you worry ‘bout a thing
For I’m sure there will be
Always a good navy
Protecting the land and sea
In the navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the navy
Come on be bold and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
Can’t you see we need a hand
In the navy
Come on, protect the motherland
In the navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the navy
Come on be bold and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy, in the navy (in the navy)
They want you, they want you
They want you as a new recruit
Who me?
They want you, they want you
They want you as a new recruit
But, but, but, I’m afraid of water.
Hey, hey look
Man, I get seasick even watchin’ it on the TV!
They want you, they want you in the navy
Oh my goodness.
What am I gonna do in a submarine?
They want you, they want you in the navy
In the navy
Yes, you can sail the seven seas
In the navy
Yes, you can put your mind at ease
In the navy
Come on be bold and make a stand
In the navy, in the navy
Can’t you see we need a hand
In the navy
Come protect the motherland
In the navy
Come on and join your fellow man
In the navy
Come on be bold and make a stand
