It's a fire hazard.
Gov. Ron DeSantis urged owners of electric vehicles in Florida on Wednesday to drive them to higher ground to avoid them being exposed to seawater as part of Hurricane Helene.
DeSantis said such vehicles can catch fire when seawater from storm surges inundates the battery packs, and those fires can be difficult for firefighters to extinguish.
“Just know that when you have saltwater intrusion in that, they can catch fire,” DeSantis said. He said there were instances during Hurricane Ian when a home survived the Category 5 hurricane, but the vehicle parked in the garage caught fire and burned down the house.
“Really big homes, but the EV caught fire and burned the house down,” the Governor said. He urged EV owners to drive them to higher ground.

Prayers for those who had to go through the storm.
Who, in their right mind, would buy a used Tesla that was registered in Florida or Louisiana?
I wonder how many snowbirds have EV’s in Florida that are not parked on high ground.
A good thing about this is that water makes it a quickly self-solving problem. They'll never get a chance to be re-sold.
Who in their right mind would buy one period?
Didn’t a bunch of them catch fire when a big storm went through New England a while back?
I don’t think these cars are safe anywhere.
Democrat EV owners wouldn’t have known this. Why were they alerted?
“I have only one burning desire,
let me stand next to your fire”
If it wasn’t for political pressure lithium batteries would never have been approved by OSHA.
Certainly Virtue Whiners, but also Floridians who normally drive around all day in a golf cart.
In case they didn't already know, now the governor has told them how to pull a seawater insurance job on them, especially if it was "loaded up with valuables because we were fleeing the storm".
conservative elon fans? do they exist? plenty. so elon can continue to take they money and laugh all the way to the bank.
There is no higher ground in Florida until you get to the panhandle.
And, be careful if you have a Cherry 2000 model android companion.
Fixed it.
If you test drive a Tesla, and “Light My Fire” by the Doors comes on the radio, you shouldn’t buy the car. Actually, you shouldn’t buy the car anyway.
i was wondering about seacoast folks with EV’s
Insurance companies give finger.
Prayers for those who had to go through the storm.
Amen
I wonder if Big Insurance has an exception rider on electric car insurance policies that exclude damage from salt water - L-ion battery getting together.
If not, then this is an opportunity for someone who is disillusioned with their EV to get rid of the car and receive a big check from B.I. Just position your EV where it will be covered with salt water for a while and ka-boom - time to go car shopping.
“Gov. DeSantis warns electric vehicle owners to keep them dry from seawater”
gonna be some really big fireworks when these sea-soaked things start shooting off like giant roman candles ... i would imagine it won’t be too long before insurance companies cease insuring EVs located in the gulf coast states and along the southeastern seaboard ...
