Mass illegal migration has been tough on the finances of small cities and towns throughout the U.S.
So, many of these towns are raising property taxes -- through the roof.
South Portland, Maine, which has seen a mass influx of illegals flown in by the Harris-Biden administration, has raised its property taxes for residents 25% in the last five years as a result. Some have seen hikes as high as 60%. Spending for illegals and their NGO "services" keeps piling up, always going higher than the previously promised budget for them.

I grew up in So. Portland. Very nice town. Went through there a year or so ago and didn’t recognize it.
The terrorists were NOT flown there without the governor’s approval.

In most cases it’s fraud involving bogus property value assessments. They aren’t raising tax rates, or voting in a new bond. No, the assessor’s office is engaged in inflating property values to cover the new desired spending level.
And your property insurance also goes up as a result
It isn’t just “the market”. People need to wake the hell up and start contesting and suing the county over these insane assessment levels.
What an evil POS this guy is.
So how does a jerk like that get elected in the first place?

So this is how the State winds up with your property. They tax it away from you. They trick you into taking out equity loans to pay the tax man until you no longer have any equity left to pay the tax man and then the State files a tax lien on your property and forfeits it to the State. You will own nothing and be laughingly happy like the clown Kamala. They (State) lie to you. You know they are lying. They know you know they are lying. They insultingly keep lying to your face anyway because they know they can get away with it. This is how Communism.
Thought so. Democrat solutions to almost everything is to raise taxes, throw more money at the problem, and hope it sticks. Republicans look at what produced the new costs and find a way to reduce or remove those costs.
