The headline in this morning’s Kommersant newspaper captured the drama.
“Vladimir Putin draws his red line.”
Will the West cross it? And, if it does, how will Russia respond?
Speaking in St Petersburg, President Putin sent a clear warning to the West: don’t allow Ukraine to use your long-range missiles to strike Russian territory.
Moscow, he said, would view that as the “direct participation” of Nato countries in the war in Ukraine.
“It would substantially change the very essence, the nature of the conflict,” the Kremlin leader continued.
“This will mean that Nato countries, the USA and European states, are fighting with Russia.”
He claimed that, for missile launches into Russia, Ukraine would require data from Western satellites and that only servicemen from Nato member states would be able to “input flight missions into these missile systems”.

Russia can use Iranian weapons to attack Kyiv and Lviv but Ukraine can’t use Nato weapons to attack Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Sounds fair to a Putinbot.
Putin wants an off ramp very badly, but he will not cede territory until Trump is elected.( Because Putin knows that Trump will not allow NATO to continue its non-self defense roll of aggression exhibited by Clinton in the Balkans ,and by Obama/Clinton in Libya. The leftists in Washington have used NATO as their device to create millions of refugees to use in demographic warfare.....their now favorite tool of war.Putin will not put up with that.Zelensky will.)
Then watch the rails get greased when PDJT is elected..
Like the Ottoman Empire it is a feudalistic empire from the Middle Ages which cannot cope with the modern world.
Feudalism.
Look it up!
Once you have a cursory appreciation of its values and beliefs then go ahead and prattle-on about individualism, population centers and other post-Enlightenment Western concepts. They don’t exist in Russia and are not expressed in Russia’s geopolitical activity.
Who?
Pretty convenient to set the rules of war so that you can bombard your opponent’s capital, but your opponent has to leave your capital alone.
Putin doesn’t have a monopoly on illogical thinking when it comes to, since the 9/11 attack originated in Afghanistan a military response from the USA was warranted but I can think of no logical reason for invading Iraq or spending 20 years in Afghanistan.
My point is, regardless of how illogical the war was when it began I think it’s equally illogical to argue for its expansion from a US perspective
Russia has a sphere of influence that extends beyond its internationally-recognized borders.
If you speak Russian, you are Russian.
If you speak Ukranian, Georgian, Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, or any language of a former SSR, you are Russian.
If you speak Polish, Fin, or any language of a place once ruled by Imperial Russia, you are Russian.
If you speak Hungarian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Serbo-Croat, Albanian, or any language of a country once part of the Warsaw Pact, you are Russian.
Sounds like a Putinbot.
If the parties are not otherwise engaged this afternoon, perhaps they could make time to end this war.
Can anyone imagine Kamala being a wartime president? Seriously we would need a military coup or surrender !
Stayed within their sphere?
Sure Africa and Syria yup
That’s what one does invade and destroy parts of your “own” country like Chechnya? lol okay
Georgia is independent, got ya
I wouldn’t say majority, but there is a reason so many Russians were in Ukraine, it’s called Stalin and the Soviet Union
I guess we can call Springfield part of Haiti as well
Spoken like a true Yankee. The Ukrainians I know are fighting to be free of Russian subjugation and they fight against the Neo-Stalinist state. You appeaseniks are a very dangerous lot.
Exactly.
The Russian world view has always been defined by fatalism and paranoia.
It’s worse for the Putin generation that grew up in the rubble of post WWII USSR, lived through the Cold War and then suffered through the collapse of the USSR which caused massive hardships where people literally starved
Carlson’s interview was an honest look into the mind of the real Putin.
Putin is the hardest man in a society that has endured hardships that would break your average American
I would not underestimate what this man is capable of.
New red line pronounced in different clips, with different backgrounds, of Putin saying the same thing, in the same way, while looking somehow off or odd. AI generated?
Pretty convenient to set the rules of war so that you can bombard your opponent’s capital, but your opponent has to leave your capital alone.—
Yup, those are rules for fighting manufactured proxy wars against opponents armed with enough nuclear weapons to destroy then world several times over.
That’s why friends don’t let friends start and fight proxy wars.
appeaseniks are terrorist supporters
Neocons are…?
Wow..... you got to say neocons.
For now, Putin's circle of support remains large enough for him to survive, but, with the Russian economy suffering and the war stalemated, that is unlikely to continue for another year. The best outcome for all concerned will be an imperfect peace. Since Putin and Russia would see themselves as losers if they make peace overtures, the US and the West will have to make the first move.
I expect that Trump will be returned to office and will quickly bring Putin and Russia to the bargaining table. The outcome will be objectively unfavorable to Russia, but the government there will dress it up as a victory of sorts because Russia will continue to be ruled by Putin and his gangster friends. The Russian people will privately know better and grumble, biding their time.
As for Ukraine, with a de facto victory, a NATO security guarantee, and a gusher of reconstruction cash, the country will enjoy a wave of prosperity and peace. As happens in such eras, Ukraine will soon enjoy a baby boom. I trust that you will be pleased by that.
