Apollo 8 astronaut William Anders' plane crashes northwest of Seattle. Search and rescue underway
Yes...you are truly displaying that.
Then somebody else must've been in there with him, because somebody definitely was pulling HARD on the yoke, right up until impact.
I had a neighbor named Duckworth that kept a T-6 at Carlsbad. We used to go up on weekends and fly aerobatics over the water out by Oceanside.
“John Denver ran out of gas over the ocean AND didn’t have the skill to glide down to the surface, if that might have saved him.”
So many things.
FAA had sent two notices that his medical cert had been revoked.
He had only a 1/2 hour checkout on the craft.
It was an experimental craft with a fuel selector that required unbuckling to reach.
A mirror was required to read the fuel gushes.
Denver had to uses pillows to position him to reach controls
Finding says probable cause was inadvertent right pedal actuation while trying to move fuel tank selector valve.
“However, it is far exceeded by the sound of a fully loaded F-16 taking off with maximum throttle afterburner from 100 meters distance.’
And the F-16 is far exceeded by the F-35.
John Denver was a weird one. Seems his ultralight had a two fuel tanks and to switch over to the full one, you had to physically turn around. Evidently while trying to turn around to activate the fuel tank, he caused the plane to crash.
Godspeed...
“fuel selector that required unbuckling to reach”
I knew the fuel selector position was bad, but I didn’t know you had to unbuckle to change tanks. What a stupid design. Look at all the people who can’t even stay in their lane on the road while looking at their phone!
What “secrets”?
Denver inadvertantly put the plane into a stall when trying to switch the fuel tank.
A pilot license never expires.
regardless
but a pilots’ medical certificate does
If you can pass the FAA’s flight physical, you can get a pilot’s license. He certainly had many decades of experience.
Years ago, when I lived in southern California, there was a commercial on TV for Glendale Federal Savings.
In one of their commercials, they showed a man named Ernie English who was flying an open cockpit biplane.
Ernie, at the time, was well into his nineties.
Wow he’s gone..
“Seems his ultralight “
Experimental but too heavy for ultralight classification.
When I was a youngster, I was visiting my father’s office in New York City.
I heard the Apollo 8 astronauts were in town, and, like most boys my age, I was fascinated by the space program.
I left my father’s office and started walking around Manhattan with the intention of finding them.....and I did!
I stood in front of the Waldorf Astoria hotel, and I saw William Anders walking through a revolving door into the hotel.
I stood on the sidewalk for a while when all of a sudden, a limo slowly drove by.
Frank Borman and his wife were sitting on the back seat.
They were stooped over at a 45 degree angle, and they were waving at me and a couple of other people who were standing near me. Of course, I waved back.
I still remember when Frank Borman read from the Book of Genesis while orbiting the moon on Christmas Eve in 1968.
“If you can pass the FAA’s flight physical, you can get a pilot’s license. “
Totally separate.
To get your license:

Be able to read, speak, write, and understand English
Hold a U.S. student, sport, or recreational pilot certificate
Hold at least a third-class medical certificate
Receive a logbook endorsement from an instructor certifying you’re prepared for the knowledge test
Receive flight training and a logbook endorsement from an instructor certifying you’re prepared for the practical test
Meet the aeronautical experience requirements

Pass the practical test
