Newsom proposes defunding police, prisons, public safety as California faces massive deficit

Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., proposed slashing budgets regarding public safety, such as prisons and law enforcement, as the state simultaneously grapples with a crippling deficit and doubles down on climate goals relating to equity.

The California Democrat's proposed budget, released in May, notes that "difficult decisions" are necessary to address the estimated $27.6 billion deficit, which is projected to continue for years to come. It includes a $97 million cut to trial court operations, $10 million to the Department of Justice's Division of Law Enforcement and more than $80 million to the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

A Newsom spokesperson initially told Fox News Digital that there were "no cuts to law enforcement." (They lied)

"The budget proposes numerous ways to make government more efficient and reduce costs for taxpayers, including cuts on inmate spending. Since Governor Newsom took office in 2019, the state has made record investments in law enforcement, including $1.1 billion to tackle crime, support police, and hold criminals accountable," the spokesperson said.

In a state which is suddenly without any sort of criminal justice system, you would have to expect ordinary citizens to take out the trash.

The Left seems to like anarchy. Give them a taste. I bet they won’t like it.

Everyone forgets that we used to be a fairly conservative state...
I'd say we were a fairly libertarian state when I was I kid here in back the 60's and 70's. It was alive and let live, mind your own business kind of place.

Now it's like one big HOA and Karen is the HOA President.

Newsome tells everyone to leave the state, except “Newcomers”, who are paid for by the Feds.

Defund the police and let the gangs and other criminals run rampant and increase efforts to take away guns from law-abiding people. That works./s

I’ll definitely consider Sarah Huckaby Sanders an improvement over Newsom.

Cal spends 33 billion a year on services to illegals; so lets cut the police and fire fighters, and close the prisons.

“”The budget proposes numerous ways to make government more efficient and reduce costs for taxpayers, including cuts on inmate spending”

“Data shows concentrations of public employees for each state”

California

State/Local FTE Employment
883,408

State Gov. FTE Employment
235,973

Boy oh boy, just what are they going to do? I know what they won’t do! In Kalifornia there is One Government sloth for every 17 none Gov. working Californians. Now that’s efficiency for you. Gubermint Managers and Supervisors are on cruise control, little is being asked of them to right the ship is my bet.

Actually, I love those stems and such, which are the complete basis for balsamic vinegar. The good ones are made from “must,” which are the stems fermenting.

It’s not a horrific thing. It’s something of real value, when used right.
