The electronics retailer Best Buy is set to close 10 to 15 stores this year and into early next year, according to an earnings call last week where the CEO blamed declining sales.

On the earnings call, Best Buy CEO Corie Barry said the company needs “to strike a balance between its workforce and consumer interest,” according to The Austin American-Statesman.

The chain closed 24 of its more than 1,000 stores last year. Earlier this month, two Best Buy locations closed – one in Colorado and one in Minnesota.

In a thriving, booming, and healthy economy, you do not have multiple retail companies closing multiple stores. The government and media is lying to you regarding our nation's economic health. Bidenomics is destroying our country. At some point, probably after the election should Trump overcome all cheating and win, the economic "experts" and media will pivot to telling the truth. Although they will place the blame on everyone who did not cause the disaster.

Haven’t been to Best Buy in over ten years. I thought they were done already.

Best Buy is Amazon’s “showroom”.Although a year ago I got a good deal on an “open box” LG TV which was clearly in brand new condition. Paid about $250 less than if it was unopened and I bought it in New Hampshire so I saved another $70 in sales tax.

We have gotten great deals at Best Buy over Black Friday occasions—better than Costco or Amazon.

BestBuy is often called “Amazon’s Showroom” for a reason. It’s hard to run profitable brick & mortar businesses these days.

We have a big store in the burbs in this area.

The parking lot is almost always empty—don’t know how they stay in business.

I agree. I’m old, and if I take the time to go to Best Buy to see a product, if the price is anywhere close to the online price, I buy it in the store. I realize that if I don’t patronize my “showroom” it will disappear.

Government killed brick and mortar retailers with a combination of power-mad lockdowns, and by giving the green light to urban mobs and chaos.

The price difference between Amazon and in-store Best Buy is minimal. We no longer can buy tax-free on Amazon, so that advantage is gone.

The big advantage of Amazon is the sheer size of inventory and convenience.

I needed a couple of USB - USB C adapters a few weeks ago and went to Best Buy. They didn’t have the adapters, but they did have cables, so I bought two of them. When I got them home I discovered they were Male-Male, not Male-Female, so I jumped on Amazon and bought what I wanted in less than 20 seconds. Then I got in the car and made a SECOND trip to the store. I wasted about $4 in gas and 90 minutes of time.

I’m old too. I bought a $35 DVD player rather than the $85 Blue-Ray. That doesn’t help them either. Old folks got the money but there’s nothing out there we really want. Just watch the commercials that interrupt the YouTube videos.

Wife and I bought two LG TVs at BB to replace our aging plasma sets. The first, a 55” set, was about the same price as Amazon. The second, a 48” set was on sale about a $100 cheaper than Amazon. I like to see TVs in person. I will also say, the OLED TVs weigh a heck of a lot less than those ancient plasmas. Light enough that my wife and I could transport them and handle the setup ourselves.

I used to get the best deals at Circuit City, but once they closed I’ve had good luck at BB.

The trend line is not good. Stores like CVS and BB and Rite aid closing and inventory low. Not a good feel. I think too that Biden bureaucracy is lying.

Hard to run a profitable brick and mortar biz, these days, when crooks are allowed to walk in, and, take off with big screen tvs, etc.

This happens at our closest BB (in a nice, conservative area), weekly ... to no consequences. Cops aren’t even called. Same guy, returns weekly, so they say.

What a “biz” model.

Best Buy is another one that’s been circling. The death of physical media has eaten them alive. They turned into basically a collection of cell phone kiosks subletting space to all the companies. Some computer stuff, some appliances but that lines them up for a lot of competition. The only thing the economy has done to them is move up the timeline of their inevitable demise.

In a thriving, booming, and healthy economy, you do not have multiple retail companies closing multiple stores.

Despite the roaring booming 1920s economy, you had multiple closures of buggy whip retailers. It's Schumpeter's "Creative Destruction" at work.
