Trump unable to secure $454 million appeal bond in New York civil fraud case, his attorneys say

Former President Donald Trump has been unable to secure the $454 million bond, the full amount of the civil fraud judgment against him, which he must post in order to appeal, his attorneys said in a filing Monday.

Trump offered last month to post a $100 million appeal bond rather than the full amount as the process plays out in court, but the judge denied the proposal.

Trump's "ongoing diligent efforts have proven that a bond in the judgment’s full amount is 'a practical impossibility,'" the former president's lawyers said, per NBC News. "These diligent efforts have included approaching about 30 surety companies through 4 separate brokers."

Efforts to secure the bond include "countless hours negotiating with one of the largest insurance companies in the world," but the work has been unfruitful, per the document.

If I was a billionaire, I'd step up to help out. Unfortunately, my couch cushions will cough up no more money. I've cleaned them out paying for groceries.

This should go to SCOTUS immediately. This is beyond the pale.

Gee, Do you think that the powers to be in the financial institute put out the word to maybe not give Trump a bond? Funny how the German bank will loan money one day and the next day nobody will provide a bond

He needs to hit that skunk in the White House up for a couple pallets of “Benjamins”. If he can lend them to a clown in the Ukraine and use them to buy “college diplomas” for idiots not interested in getting jobs to pay off their bills themselves, I’m pretty sure he can come off a few to help the next president of the U.S.

“If I was a billionaire, I’d step up to help out.”

Well Trump IS a billionaire and has significant assets. The problem is it is all tied up. Assets can be sold but it takes time to do such deals. He’ll figure it out.

Is Trump unable? Or unwilling?

You know once he posts that bond, he’ll never get it back.

how is this constitutional?

judge levies outrageous penalty

preventing defendant from appealing an outrageous verdict

the defendant is being denied due process

Setting a bond that the defendant cannot afford is of course antithetical to judicial philosophy in New York, as murderers and other violent criminals are set free every day with no or low bond.

Because it’s a smokescreen designed to convince the enemy that Trump has tried, he really has, tried to comply with their lawfare orders, but he just can’t raise the money.

Yep.

I sound like a broken record on a lot of my posts, but this is yet more proof that our country is an absolute joke. There’s now way this should be allowed to persist.

You know once he posts that bond, he’ll never get it back.

If he doesn't then he can't appeal. So then he is compelled to pay it anyway. It's a trap that says "our bill is so outrageously excessive that it's impossible to appeal or pay, we will destroy you financially for your crime of paying your loans on time in full!"
