It’s official: After dipping their toes into the working world and spending a handful of years on the job, Gen Zers are already over the traditional nine-to-five grind.
You may remember that TikTok video of a young woman crying over her “crazy” nine-to-five schedule—described as “Gen Z girl finds out what a real job is like”—which went viral last year.

I sort of disagree but mildly. Many of them will become Soviet style communists and vote for politicians(who themselves are grifters) who will give the voters much money. Many, if not most, of the GenZ folk are inveterate brainwashed, entitled, and lazy people who believe happiness is owed them. Cold water will make them paradoxically vote for global warming. IMHO.
I enjoy the McFarlands. Very down-to-earth and genuinely funny. Their schtick is over-the-top sometimes, but in their regular, dinner-time conversation videos you see that they are really great people. The dad is the star of the show.
Then live in a cardboard box house on the sidewalk, Gen Zers.
If they’re working a full 40 hour week, 9-5 means that they’re getting paid for lunch.
I am not against tax cuts just think that being in favor of tax cuts in times of high deficits is asinine and that anyone who supports tax cuts for people wealthier than them is a simp.
Exactly. When I was working in the corporate world, I noticed an unmistakable trend about 20 years ago: I was conducting interviews with entry-level applicants (for professional jobs in a STEM industry) who were so ignorant and sheltered in their lives that they had no idea what a “good” or “bad” job looked like.
Exactly. “Conservatives” who expect to win the libertarian wet dream entrepreneurial jackpot are just as delusional as the Gen-Zers who expect to win the YouTube, Instagram, TikTok or OnlyFans jackpot.
They are Gen Sqat and will get squat in the end.Enjoy communism I’ll be gone.
Being happy with your family is the most important thing.
There’s no substitute for hard work, but I will cut them some slack, in that a LOT of bosses today seem to go out of their way to create unbearable jobs (especially entry-level, where most people get to know the business world)
That is, they never create a genuine sense of teamwork, never make the worker feel like he/she’s doing something useful, never praise or recognize their workers’ efforts, never switch up the work assignments so there’s some variety (not just monotony), and have lousy communications with their employees
Add in favoritism and unequal treatment of workers, in some cases
Simple mistakes that could be avoided ... but usually never are ... and then the employers wonder why they have such a high turnover
Not all companies, of course ... and you can see a real difference in the companies that care
There are many fates worse than a 9-5 office job. Many of these late adolescents will find that out the hard way in due course.
The lock-downs have gone a very long way to de stigmatize the criminal indolence of that growing crowd of surly, demanding losers that Liberals have been cultivating for decades in this country.
There is by now NO shame in spending your whole life standing around with your hand out!!
Yes, growing up and dealing with reality generally takes time. When I was young, you just had your real-life friends to complain that life was unfair. Now they're all over the interwebs.
I went from precision machine operator to shuttle bus driver in 2020. Took a big cut in pay, but the cut in stress is worth it.
My ex-son in law once said he wanted to own a Dollar Store. I made the mistake of asking him how he was going to buy one. He said he was hoping someone would give one to him, and he was serious. I knew if he married my daughter the marriage would not last. My daughter did anyway to prove me wrong. They did get that divorce I knew was coming.
I can see that it would be. My second daughter was an air traffic controller in the Marines, and now she’s a wildland firefighter. She didn’t want to stay in the ATC field: too much anxiety.
I’m much more concerned about those who want to be other-supported.
If they can make a living and be happy not working in a corporation more power to them, because corporate jobs are “soul-sucking” in today’s environment, however very few if any jobs are 9-to-5.
I went to an ATC En Route center in 2005 due to interest in the field.
I left with no interest in the field.
“self employed people never start or stop” is so true. every day just turns into the next day because that’s how REAL work gets done. and retire? HAHAHAHA! old timer told me years ago “son, if you think you are busy now...just wait until you retire!”. he wasn’t kidding. when a “get it done” type person tries to retire it seems that there’s no one with the necessary experience to take their place and the demand for quality and experience doesn’t stop. “wisdom doesn’t always come with age but age comes anyway”.
