MSNBC host Joy Reid lamented that black Americans have not received sufficient reparations for “literally, physically” building this country, believing that former President Barack Obama’s eight-year tenure is the best they will get.
Reid issued her comments during an interview on Salon Talks with writer Dean Obeidallah wherein she said that black people “literally, physically, built this country” and therefore deserve much more than a two-term black president.

If Joy Reid was right and she’s NOT right - why the hell didn’t black people ‘build’ Africa? Africa’s one of the poorest places on earth, it’s not free, it’s corrupt and looks like an inner city hellhole.

Joy, black people were an integral part of the slave trade. In fact, they were the most critical part of the slave trade. African blacks produced the product - the slaves. They fought and enslaved other blacks and sold them to the arabs. Go demand reparations from the African blacks!

How did they build so many amazing things without having a written language? Did any sub saharan country develop a written language? How is anything built without the ability to communicate?
They had a hand in it. So did every other racial and ethnic group.
No doubt many of the plantation mansions were built with slave labor. Then many of them were burned down by the Union troops.
Should reparations first come from the blacks who captures blacks and sold them?
All the white trappers and westbound pioneers who cut down trees and built log cabins were actually enslaved?
The English, Swedish and Dutch who settled New England through Pennsylvania, with many colonial towns and churches still bearing their names—they didn’t build that?
All the Quakers and Shakers who settled New England through Ohio and built wooden homes and meeting houses—black?
The Anabaptists (Amish and Mennonite) who settled all over the eastern half of the US, especially Pennsylvania, Ohio, Maryland, West Virginia, Kentucky—all black?
The Scots-Irish who settled the multi-state Appalachian region with wooden and stone dwellings, actually black?
Hispanic and native Americans out west who made bricks of adobe to build houses—they, too, were actually black?
The Germans and Scandanavians who settled much of the upper half of the country, especially from the Mississipi through Pacific coast, farming and making woolens, preserved meats and cheeses—don’t tell me—they were really black?
Except that the ones still in China want our entire country as a reparation. Don't think there aren't thousands, if not millions, of Chinese descent here who are helping them. The Chinese play a long game.
Various plantation houses are now used as museums and wedding venues.
Also tobacco, sugar cane (very deadly work), rice, and indigo—raw materials for sale to manufacturers owned by northerners or for export to other states or Europe.
