BRUSSELS — The world just experienced its hottest January on record, continuing a run of exceptional heat fueled by climate change, the European Union’s Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) said on Thursday.
Last month surpassed the previous warmest January, which occurred in 2020, in C3S’s records going back to 1950.
The exceptional month came after 2023 ranked as the planet’s hottest year in global records going back to 1850, as human-caused climate change and the El Nino weather phenomenon, which warms the surface waters in the eastern Pacific Ocean, pushed temperatures higher.
Every month since June has been the world’s hottest on record, compared with the corresponding month in previous years.

Meanwhile Ive been freezing my butt off all month in New York
Every month is the same yet why is my heating bill also the highest?
You have to realize that when they say history... they mean recorded history. Recorded weather history is about 150 years.
It’s going to be about 60* here in Ohio today. If this is climate change, I’m going to burn some tires in my back yard to be sure it continues.
It was 4F here in SE TN and the first time in 30 years we had a lot of snow...
Dream on Global Warming peeps...
The Earth is 4 BILLION YEARS OLD. I wonder just which year these IDIOT Scientists CHERRY picked?
Just one EU scientist warns ,LOL
Is that why CA is having record snows?
My heat pump usually turns off if the temp rises...
There were times it didnt turn off for 4 days at a time..
I thought it was busted...
How dare you object to this brilliant research?
This “scientist” engaged in a series of seances with Neanderthal ancestors.
;-)
EU scientist is Weather Illiterate
Can anyone say “Dust Bowl?”
My January electric bill was the highest it’s ever been. 37+ years in this house.
We've been recording daily temperatures only for the past 100 or so years. And that's during the Modern Warm Period. If we had been recording temps during the Medieval Warm Period or Roman Warm Period (time of Christ) or Minoan Warm Period (Era of Judges in Old Testament) we would have had warmer January's than this year.
The Little Ice Age ended in 1850.
And you say temperatures have risen since the Ice Age ended?
Unexpected. Are we all gonna die?
This January a good portion of Iowa was abnormally and brutally cold, as well as snowy/windy. EU scientists apparently have happy times wherein they can assert just about anything that supports the aims and dogma of the PTB.
Many plants hardy for the area, according to the latest USDA Hardiness Zone map (another load of BS), look fried. This is the fourth winter in the row where the cold weather and sometimes snow have hit the area. Of course, those four winters aren't included in those latest USDA Hardiness Zone maps, which conveniently stop at 202.
Hot fun in the wintertime!
Lying scum.
