In a year marked by dwindling public trust in key institutions and heralded by the theme “Rebuilding Trust” at the World Economic Forum’s annual Davos assembly, Emma Tucker, the Wall Street Journal’s Editor in Chief, has called for a reevaluation of how traditional media operates. Recalling a point when the mainstream press was the chief adjudicator of information and facts, she highlighted its demise that came with the rise of alternative media platforms.
Tucker, during a Davos panel supposedly dedicated to the preservation of truth, offered a lament for the era when the press held exclusive dominance over news and facts.
“If you go back not that long ago, We owned the news. We were the gatekeepers, and we very much owned the facts as well,” Tucker said.
“If it said it in the Wall Street Journal or the New York Times, then that was a fact. Nowadays, people can go to all sorts of different sources for the news, and they’re much more questioning about what we’re saying.”

Not only do her comments reveal a lot about how mainstream media figures see their role in society, her comment painted a clear picture of the power shift that has marked the recent history of the media landscape.
“So it’s no longer good enough for us to say this is what happened, or this is the news. We almost have to explain our working. So readers expect to understand how we source stories, they want to know how we go about getting stories,” she continued.
“We have to sort of lift the bonnet as it were in a way that newspapers aren’t used to doing, and explain to people what we’re doing. We need to be much more transparent about how we go about collecting the news,” Tucker added.
As far as I can tell they tend to pull it out of their.... fourth point of contact.
They don’t “collect the news”.
They manufacture propaganda.
Propaganda is more than just lying. It is choosing which stories to cover and which to ignore. It is using adjectives and adverbs which reflect the writer and editor bias and have nothing to do with the facts. It is using Agitation and Propaganda words and phrases which hide the truth instead of revealing it. It is playing favorites with public figures—praising those they choose and praise and slandering those they choose to hate.
That's pretty telling. What she is lamenting is that they no longer "own" the facts - in truth, they never did. What they owned was trust, which they routinely betrayed.
The press has long ago abandoned any pretense of doing the basic requirements for an actual press.
“Who, what, when, where, why, and if known how” fell by the wayside to be replaced by soundbites and clever editing.
And as far as the press being the hound of the people against all politicians, they are lapdogs for politicians.
Gaslighting.
“”We owned the news. We were the gatekeepers, and we very much owned the facts as well,” Tucker said.”
What a goof.
The progs owned propaganda, nothing more.
.
They created news, not reported it.
The LugenPresse is angry that they no longer have a monopoly on “misinformation”.
There's your problem. The chickification of the news.
Tell this asshat to read news from 1863.
That is news.
This asshats slanted bias is rubbish.
🤣
Which is why you are being rejected.
Emma Tucker is clueless.
Papers HAD credibility BECAUSE they worked at being credible. That ended in the early 60’s....
Because you lied 99% and worse determined what we knew about
A pox on your sorry ass lady
If we could just bag google inc now
“Rebuilding Trust”
________
This is the only positive from this farce!
Even they understand that nobody trusts them!
The Press lying is the second oldest profession.
Well said.
Excellent definitions. Salute.
The lost trust that 5hey never really deserved in the first place, but when they even rigged the cartoons in the papers to try and brainwash kids they lost me. It just got more and more obvious they were deliberately trying to manipulate opinion the older I got.
I can remember a time when there were two or more opposing papers in every town and when the entire speech of a president was printed, and the same for other speeches, without any commentary pro or con, and so, no bias.
Now they won’t even print one paragraph without omitting key words to twist the meaning of any announcement. Often they cannot even print an entire sentence... they always omit.
