LeVar Burton got a glimpse into his lineage in “Finding Your Roots” and discovered something about his ancestors that shocked him.
The former “Reading Rainbow” host, freedom-to-read advocate and actor knew little about his lineage. He’d been estranged from his father, Levardis Robert Martyn Burton, since he was 11, and his mother, Erma Gene Christian, had been tight-lipped about her own history. Burton said it was “impossible” to get her to open-up about her upbringing.

Not unless she was LGBQTRSR+. At least in the personal property tax records for her community, she owned 5 female slaves
My grandfather was a Yankee. I demand restitution!
I read a quote from a famous historian back in 1966. He said in 1000 years the race color of America would be....grey. Betcha the current Biden imports will have something to say about that!
My ancestors fought in the Revolutionary War, all from Rowan County, N.C....Locke..I had six ancestors fought in the CW. One Yankee and five Confederates. The Yankee owned slaves and was from West Tennessee near the Mississippi border and didnt’ have to get rid of them until Dec 1865 and the five Confederates didn’t own slaves. Traced my Irish ancestry back to 800 A.D. Robert Locke ran a ship from London to Philadelphia from the 1670’s to early 1700’s...”The Speedwell”. Genealogy is interesting...and I’m 21 generations removed from Lady Godiva...I wished for a Lord or a great warrior...but nooo...I get a woman that rode a horse nekkid in Coventry.
When ever these ‘reparations’ are bemoaned for by these woke leftwing lunatics, they never mention the sacrifices of our forebearers who fought for the Union side.
Now... On the other hand... If your forbearers fought for the Confederates... Well then... To the victor goes the spoils and you’re sh*t out of luck, not that you had any in the first place. If that were the case you would’ve won the war.
Another MacBeth one, here, mother’s side.
Should I feel “roiled” over the Booth connection on dad’s side?
/penny for your thoughts?
;)
Roiled or “Royaled”? ;-)
Actually the Huguenots were...
The ones who fled to England were sent by the Crown to the New World and give money because they were Protestants...
They prospered in America...
It was a good thing...
My surname derives from a pan-Celtic deity so I’m going with that.
You may make offerings of gold now, if you wish.
:D
I have several Huguenot ancestors...
My mom's family came to the New World by way of Georgia. My dads family were Massachusetts Puritans (1633). The King was not fond of either.

Have you seen the tv series American Gods?
First off, it’s Neil Gaiman so you know it’s gonna be wild.
My favorite part is when the “ leprechaun “ Mad Sweeney finally remembers that he was once actually Lugh, the god-king of the Tuatha Dé Danann.
I was SO mad that they didn’t renew it for the final season that I went out and bought the book so I’d know how it ended.
We're all very different people. We're not Watusi. We're not Spartans. We're Americans, with a capital 'A', huh? You know what that means? Do ya? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world. We are the wretched refuse. We're the underdog. We're mutts! Here's proof: his nose is cold! But there's no animal that's more faithful, that's more loyal, more loveable than the mutt.
Sorry ‘bout the double post.
“To tell a family secret, my grandmother was Dutch.”
I had a discussion with a friend recently where he related that he had learned recently that the man he was always told was his biological father was not in fact his bilogical father.
He said he was upset because it meant “he (himself) was not who he was always told he was”.
I argued that he was was who he had made of himself, not who his biological father was.
You must come. I’ll throw a royal banquet.
