The newly elected Democrat mayor of Jacksonville, Florida, celebrated the removal of a Confederate statue in the city, which was officially gone before noon Wednesday.
Democrat Mayor Donna Deegan, who won her mayoral bid in May, celebrated the removal of the statue in Springfield Park, formally known as Confederate Park. The monument in question, “In Memory of Our Women of the Southland,” depicts a mother with her two children at her side, looking down at a book upon her lap. It was erected in October 1915.
The Democrat mayor, who said during her time on the campaign trail that she would remove Confederate monuments, contended that she is not trying to “erase history” with the statue’s removal.
“Symbols matter,” Deegan said in a statement.

Why is that whenever Bido gets a female, he has a death grip lock on her so she doesn’t get away? (And where is his left hand, hmmm?)
Nothing like ripping open the past...only shows how much prejudice still exists toward the south....thanks to Obama who started all this cr**.
Proof that she is a piece of leftist trash
But, sure, remove a statue.
‘Under what authority does this wokeist witch remove a statue signifying an historic event over states rights?’
yeah, the southerners were all for states rights; except when it came to the Fugitive Slave Act, when they were all for the federal governent involving themselves in returning their escaped slaves...
>> Where’s our governor?
Out on the campaign trail acting like a desperate jackass. Floridians? Meh. He was born to be greater than Florida.
Well put. Terribly politically incorrect, but well put.
It satisfies the Karens and Kevins. It does nothing to help anyone. Just like removing the image of Aunt Jemima and the Indian maiden from the label didn’t help anything.
It will waste a couple hundred thousand tax dollars. The statue of a woman reading a book (the Bible?) to two darling children is soooo scary and triggering!!!!
The former news reader.
All the most ardent Confederates prophesied has come to pass. In hindsight, they should’ve fought on vía guerrilla actions. Lee, while a hero and a great general most of the time, made a bad decision in folding…. I think had he for seen the future, he likely would’ve fought on.
I have 20 year old work boots that look better than that.
SCUM.
and men never tear down statues?......
A monument for the Women of the'60s.
That woman is the mayor of Jacksonville, Florida.
What will she say when it is discovered that her city was named after slave owner Andrew Jackson; and that same Jackson killed Indians.
Will she say, “Welcome to Jacksonville, the Bold New City of the South?”
You do know that the act was an enforcement of the Fugitive Slave Clause of the United States Constitution - the pro-slavery U.S. Constitution that President Lincoln took an oath twice to protect and defend?
Correct me if I'm wrong: of the original 13 slave states, 13 of them voted to incorporate the Fugitive Slave Clause into the constitution at the founding.
Democrats put the statues up. Now, Democrats are taking them down.
