For DeSantis, policy positions have not really been an issue. The big obstacle is convincing a loyal base to ditch Trump. He's been hit by the MAGA movement because they believe he should have waited his turn and not run against Trump.
DeSantis told CBN News, "Everyone has a right to be able to run. Obviously, Trump could win the primary. I'm not convinced he can win the general (election). I can."
"I would say if I could have one thing change, I wish Trump hadn't been indicted on any of this stuff.
I think, someone like a Bragg would not have brought that case if it was anyone other than Donald Trump and so someone like that is distorting justice, which is bad, but I also think it distorted the primary," he explained.
When pressed to clarify if he means it helped Trump, DeSantis noted, "It's both that but then it also just crowded out I think so much other stuff and it's sucked out a lot of oxygen."

Descant is has every right to run. Demonizing him continues to violate Regan’s 11th commandment which applies to this day. As for soft support, there is probably a reasonable guess that some support is soft as the courts continue to intervene and it is a serious threat in the SWOT analysis. But winning the primary among republicans only gets us to the starting line. The question that must be answered is can Trump win the general? The primary is always nursing followed by Kumar-by-yah rally around our guy.
I am a Desantis supporter. However, seeing what has happened to Trump tends to make my position more soft. I am open to the possibility that I may vote for Trump in the primary because I think it is important to send the message. However, if it appears that the winds are going to eliminate Trump the first step in the crisis is not to lose everything. If Trump is not electable, I would rather have someone who can run than suooort Trump at all costs and get Biden again.
Trump has fought an asymmetrical fight. I like it. I also know Trump is fighting like a business man not a politician. Score another point in his favor. But it’s not a great idea to demonize everyone else to the point that there is no alternative should one be needed.
There is still a lot of time between now and Super Tuesday. The events of the next several weeks and what I forecast as reality will ultimately be what shapes my vote. I think others feel the same way.

What was DeSantis thinking? His ego and ambition blinded him to the big picture. It seems that DeSantis been done in by someone who wanted to weaken Trump and have DeSantis self-destruct before his time.

Trump's loyal base see right through RINO establishment debutante DeSantis and rightfully concluded he's a douchebag.

Now that he sees that indicting Trump won't help himself.
DeSantis has publicly said that he believes that it's important that the U.S. President has military experience. If he had his way, a large number of candidates for the office would be eliminated.

One other thing, DeSantis WAS supported by MAGA, not over Trump, but he was very well liked by MAGA (and here), from Day 1 of his governorship in Florida. He should have capitalized on it (as Vivek continues to do), instead of listening to his wife.

President Donald Trump still dominates the field with 52% and leads in every demographic. Nikki Haley comes in second with 22%, and Ron DeSantis third with 10%.
Those are the poll results in New Hampshire, the most Swamp worshipping of the GOP primary states.
Even with Swamp worship, they cannot eclipse Trump.
It’s time to give up. Oh, wait. No. Not until every last donor money has flowed to staff. That’s what they are telling him.

DeSantis can’t stop bobbing his head left and right, down and up. This is an irritating tick to watch. The guy needs to go back to Politician finishing school.
The sharp “Never Back Down” political operatives who ran the DeSantis campaign until they quit last week: can we believe they never noticed how weak DeSantis is as a candidate on the stump?
No, they fully knew, but they saw dollar signs in their eyes and somehow convinced enough Never Trump donors to get onboard — and relieved them of a few hundred million dollars.
Of course, Trump could see the writing on the wall and played the them like a fiddle.
