Vice President Mike Pence considered skipping the congressional count of the 2020 Electoral College votes on Jan. 6, 2021, worrying that his attendance would be “too hurtful” to former President Donald Trump.
Pence, 64, disclosed his eleventh-hour concerns about presiding over the peaceful transfer of power during a deposition taken by prosecutors in special counsel Jack Smith’s office earlier this year, ABC News reported.
Sources familiar with Smith’s investigation spoke with the outlet about Pence’s recollection of the former president’s pressure to decertify the electoral count.

Shirker’s gonna shirk...
That’s the only option the guy really had to remain a viable political player.
As if Pence actually cared about hurting Donald Trump on January 6th, or thereafter. Why would he run for President in 2024, if it wasn’t to hurt Trump’s chances? Not that any honest, patriotic person would ever vote for him. This is just another version of the ever-changing story of Judas Pence. Still trying to save his sorry, traitorous, political career. He sounds like Hillary Clinton, continually coming up with a new excuse as to why she lost in 2016.
Reckless is subjective. Is Pence risk adverse?
Subjective risk (or “recklessness”) for Pence might be some action as simple as 3 prunes at bedtime.
Averse, not adverse.
Liar. Forget about it, you will not get a spot in a future Trump admin and you will not get a single vote in 2028. You made your bed, lie in it. Why not, you lie everywhere else.
What is it about the Republican Party that allows Pences and Romneys in? That’s like trying to heat the house when the windows and doors are left open.
And he does it all wrapped in religiosity. If Pence is an example of who will occupy Heaven, I’ll take my chances elsewhere.
Pence’s hour was at that crucial moment, and in it, he failed in his duty, his loyalty, and indeed, he failed the nation. He was given the golden opportunity to prove why, in four years’ time, he should be considered for the presidency, and he blew it.
“May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countryman.”
If Pence would’ve not shown up, he wouldn’t be the hated person he is today.
He made a very poor decision, that ended his political career nationally.
Would have been a lot smarter move than what that idiot ended up doing.
Disagree. He could have, and he *SHOULD* have made a spectacle of the event, calling into question it's legitimacy, denouncing it as corrupt and refusing to participate in it because it is corrupt.
He should have made it one for the history books.
But he took the coward way out.
That Sam Adams quote is a most appropriate one for that circumstance!
Pence sounds like the ever-present Hillary Clinton, continually
coming up with a new excuse as to why she lost in 2016.
When will she ever go away?
Presidential powers didn't actually get transferred to Joe Biden until January 20th.
🎯
Pence Knew. But, he lied. He diverted the focus back on Trump saying POTUS wanted the election overturned! Grrr.
POTUS wanted a “Delay” for 10 days and state investigations. Ten states objected to the ballot results and, by law, those states had to present a list of alternative electors on 20th January, in the event of an alternative outcome following investigation.
Pence was already sold out, and his Chief of Staff was his overseer, Mark Short. Ugh.
