United States bases and troops in Iraq and Syria were attacked with mortars and armed drones on Thanksgiving Day, according to several reports.
According to Sky News Arabia, U.S. and international forces were attacked four times in Iraq and Syria, but there were no casualties or damage to infrastructure.
In Iraq, several suicide drones were launched at the Ain al-Asad air base west of Baghdad, as well as one at the Harir base near Erbil Airport in northern Iraq where U.S. troops are stationed, according to the report.
A group calling itself the Islamic Resistance in Iraq claimed responsibility for the attacks in Iraq, according to Sky Arabia News. There was also a claim that militia forces stormed the base using rocket-propelled grenades and small arms.

Trump ordered troops out of Syria in 2018.
Biden doesn’t care. American troops are collateral damage as he continues his quest to lick Iran’s ass.
This. Exactly this. We should have never been there in the first place, but it is definitely time to come back home.
Thank you for your answers.
Of course, with the level of intelligence displayed by most ‘journolists’, ‘loitering munitions’ is likely too complex for them to understand.
> The Romans rarely garrisoned troops outside the empire’s borders. <
True that. The problem was that Rome was always pushing those borders outward. Or trying to, anyway.
In a way, we’re like Rome, especially after WW2. We just had to exert influence everywhere.
As to the Roman legions changing composition over time, yes you’re right. That’s important, and something I should have mentioned before.
We’re not near that yet. But I wonder. What would happen in the future if the US military could only get third world immigrants to join infantry units? I suppose that would make for a good novel now.
I don’t suppose they will give those troops a mission to make gorilla cookies out of the perps’ faces and make an example of them. That would make sense.

The missiles and drones were neutralized - the groups that launched them followed shortly afterward. Hezbollah admits to significant losses.
Any American base we would leave would be enthusiastically retaken by our traditional adversaries : China or Russia. We are being replaced by Russia and China in Africa for example and that is an economic boost for them.
It’s interesting to see that while we in America seem to have some qualms having American bases spread out internationally for our security, there are apparently zero qualms for Russia and China to replace us there.
Russia and China are fighting like hell to expand their influence, constructing bases all over the planet. Heck, China is even illegally building military artificial islands in international waters!
Some Americans want to run away from everything, weakening our own future security and strengthening our adversaries in the process, we are following the hippie “values” from the 70’s. Defeatism is taking over our minds. Sad.

This time there was something to it.
“ We are being replaced by Russia and China in Africa for example and that is an economic boost for them.”
They want Africa? Sounds like a plan!
American troops have been in Syria since 2015, but the latest casualties highlight what has been a consistent, but often quiet, U.S. counterterrorism mission, aimed at countering Iranian-backed militias and preventing the resurgence of the Islamic State group. Iran is another reason the U.S. remains in Syria
Tehran’s political influence and militia strength throughout the region have created a security concern for the U.S. Since the defeat of the Islamic State group, Iran-backed fighters have expanded their influence in the region.
The presence of American forces in Syria makes it more difficult for Iran to move weapons into Lebanon, for use by its proxies, including the Lebanese Hezbollah, against Israel. source Military Times
I understand this is an Israel problem. It is a security concern for the United States only because we have troops illegally in Syria, vulnerable to attack. Had President Trump's orders been followed and those troops returned home, what other US security concerns are you worried about?
If we had more brains than a dog, we would get out own house in order before worrying about Russia and China. Our national debt has broken all world records. Our fiscal year interest will soon be the largest budget item.
Only idiots will spend BORROWED money on foreign wars and foreign military bases. Neocons are the most disgusting people in USA.
You know why China is flexing muscles all over the world? Because they focused on biggest wealth creator, Manufacturing. We had gigantic trade deficits with China for decades. But yet, neocons want to keep spending money we don’t have? How stupid is that?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I understand what you mean.
Indeed, it’s tempting to say “let’s diminish our own dept in America first and BEFORE worrying about Russia and China”. While that might seem a great idea on paper, in reality there is actually a nasty shortcoming about it.
Let me do a metaphor to explain:
Let’s say that to build the entire defensive wall against Mexico would cost about 20 billion dollars. People would argue that the timing is not right for such expenditures, because of the high dept and high inflation we are enduring.
The contra-argument to those complaining about the high price tag would be: “If we let all illegal aliens come in unhindered, the bill will be way higher than the cost building the wall!” (that is my view)
Based on the same logic... if we let Russia and China invade all our allies and business trading partners, we won’t be able to do business anymore and earn the money needed to diminish the dept!
There are sacrifices we can’t let happen.
Letting Russia take Ukraine (then Europe) and then let China take Taiwan, means the beginning of the end for Americas economy. In such scenario our dept in America will literally explode, dwarfing the one we have right now.
America’s economy works only as long as America’s allies and main business partners remain free. Free enough to buy American goods.
I would expect no less.
We need to keep praying for the safety of our troops, and especially with Christmas coming.
Trump said that ISIS was defeated. Also, the US sold A 3.5 billion dollar patriot missile system to Turkey. US abandoned the Kurds. ISIS prisoners were released or broke out of jail. Terrorist attacks are still a concern and not only for Israel.
