Maine Has Yellow Flag Law, Allows Temporary Confiscation of Guns
Breitbart ^ | 10/26/2023 | AWR HAWKINS

While gun controllers like Shannon Watts react to Wednesday’s shootings by pushing a red flag law for Maine, it should be noted that the state already has a yellow flag law.

A yellow flag law allows police to petition to have an individual’s guns removed.

On July 1, 2022, Maine Public Radio focused on the state’s yellow flag law, suggesting it “could be a model for gun control” and noting the law had been used 22 times to take away guns during the previous two years.

I don’t believe in confiscating guns.
But I think we need to lock up crazy people.

Most states if you are under a restraining order you must surrender your guns to LE.

Not applied. Likely motive — let him kill people so they can crusade for MORE gun control.

I don’t discriminate, so regardless of color - yellow or red, it’s a tyrannical law that did nothing to stop what it purports to stop as demonstrated yesterday.

The purpose of these laws is to lay the ground work for politically oriented confiscation in true “progressive” fashion.

Maine also has a statute for involuntary civil commitment...

If someone is hearing voices and says they want to go kill people, I think taking their guns away makes perfect sense. YMMV. Locking them up works for me too.

If you can not be trusted with guns you should not be out on the street.

It is that simple.

Undermining the US Constitution one paper cut at a time.

Now, if this were some rule restricting access to an abortion clinic, say a requirement for anyone under 18 to have their guardian present when entering the facility, could you imagine the uproar?

Locking them up is the reasonable thing. If they truly are a danger to themselves or others, that’s what should happen.

Taking away the guns they have at the moment and leaving them be is what I have a problem with.

Wasn’t the guy already committed to a mental institution?

If so he’s not allowed to have firearms anyway because it’s Federal law.

“Now, if this were some rule restricting access to an abortion clinic...”

A completely specious comparison. Abortion is a sacred right discovered by five of nine Justices in 1973 hiding in the ‘penumbra’ of a ‘right to privacy’ implied by not stated in the 4th and 14th Amendments whereas the 2nd Amendment’s phrase ‘shall not be infringed’ is really too difficult for the average American to understand.

How would this be paid for? Aren’t we trying to CUT spending?

CUT spending

It'd be a lot cheaper if government stuck to what it should be doing.

Loons used to be locked up routinely until the 70s when libs decried the "injustice".

Exactly. It is the person who is a problem. They could do plenty of damage with a knife, vehicle, gasoline and matches and anyone of other perfectly legal, easy to obtain items.

Yep.

The nasty little secret they do not want talk about is you are as likely to be "involuntarily committed" because your spouse wants a divorce as you are because you are a raving nutter.
