McCarthy: Pelosi told him “‘I’ll always back you up’”
In McCarthy’s press conference, after being removed as Speaker of the House, he relates how, when the vote to determine Speaker earlier this year was happening, Nancy Pelosi told him “in this room” to “just give it to them” referring to the Motion to Vacate, which allows just one member to call for the Speaker to vacate, “one person can rule you out” as McCarthy put it, with Pelosi saying “‘I’ll always back you up’” according to McCarthy quoting here in this press conference.

McCarthy himself thus describes how the agreement, regarding Motion to Vacate rules, made to vote him in as Speaker was never taken seriously by him and that he believed this check on the Speaker by the Republican Representatives would be ineffectual due to his prior conversation with Pelosi.
He never felt constrained and believed he did not have to be beholding to the Republicans because told him “‘I’ll always back you up.’”

The Motion to Vacate was an agreement McCarthy made to finally get Republicans to agree to vote him in as Speaker.
I was astonished to hear him at this press conference saying that Pelosi told him to let them have it because she’d back him up.
In other words he never entered that agreement honestly, thinking Pelosi’s promise allowed him not to be concerned with it.
How dishonest and disingenuous. He makes an agreement with his own party thinking the agreement means nothing anyhow based on a private conversation with Pelosi.
He’s the frog. Pelosi is the scorpion. His speakership was the river.
Not a bright guy to believe Pelosi on anything.
McCarthy is shyster.

That dirty deal right there has it been known publicly back then, should have been a red flag to not nominate him.

Yes. He did not deal honestly with the Republicans and made the agreement with his fingers crossed thanks to Pelosi’s promise, which he apparently believed.
