Retirees have lost their appetite for Cracker Barrel and Olive Garden since the pandemic — and it’s not clear when they’ll come back, according to the chains’ top brass.
No amount of biscuits and gravy or unlimited pasta refills seems to be enough to entice the 65-and-older crowd as they continue to pinch pennies amid high inflation and duck the coronavirus, according to Rick Cardenas, chief executive of Darden Restaurants, which owns Olive Garden.
“I do believe that they were a little bit more spooked on the COVID side,” Cardenas told analysts on a Thursday conference call. “We’d love to see them come back more frequently.” Indeed, seniors are heading to the budget-friendly pasta chain less often than they had before the pandemic, added chief financial officer Raj Vennam on a conference call on Thursday with Wall Street analysts.

Love you enemies and pray for them, and God will heap coals of fire on their heads.[clumsy paraphrase]
I take the coals to mean they will wake the enemies of God up to the truth.
I pray for their salvation .
Diane, awesome all that you do, God bless you!
Exactly, but it didn’t stop NASCAR.
Well, heck, food at the grocery store(s) has gone up that much or more during Biden's term...
That said, my family has for the last few years only eaten at sit-down restaurants if someone gives us a gift card to one. Eating out is just too expensive. Even fast food can get pricey.
Get help. Or listen to Jesus. Something...
My husband loves junk food aka eating out, but I don’t. We stopped going out when covid started and when he got where he couldn’t walk without a walker. He won’t use the walker and I’m not big enough to pick him up off a sidewalk or parking lot.
Doordash allows him to eat junk food while I home cook mine.
Well, if all the food items declared “this is bad for you” by various FReepers really were “off the table”, there’d be nothing to eat...
Thank you for the condolences. It’s a nightmare I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
Thank you for your condolences. My son had recently started back on antidepressants after an 18 month respite. He didn’t drink for 5 weeks because he wanted them to work so badly. He fell off the wagon on Father’s Day weekend and quickly spiraled in a matter of hours on June 19th. He was engaged and put his house on the market the day before because he had moved in with his fiancée. His life was going well except for the demons in his head. This wasn’t a conscious, well thought out plan. He decided within minutes that it was the only way to shut the demons up. Our consolation is he’s now at peace and he still loves us all very much.
God bless him where he is; and God bless you and the family. You’ll be together again farther along.
