LIFEBOAT

One of the great World War II films was LIFEBOAT, about the ordeal faced by survivors of a passenger ship that was sunk by a Nazi U-Boat in the middle of the Atlantic. The film details their struggle for survival in a small lifeboat, fighting the elements, thirst and then fighting against each other.

Each person has their own ideas about how to navigate the little boat: they argue about who should be in charge; and they find little things to fight over even when they run out of things to fight over. Eventually they come to understand that their only hope is in putting aside their differences and working toward the common goal of survival. They learn that they cannot possibly get the boat to safety unless they all adopt that unifying goal.

In a sense the entire world is a LIFEBOAT, and we are all like the survivors in that film. We cannot solve the great problems which confront humanity--hunger, disease and war--unless we unite in a common effort to find meaningful remedies to these plagues.

It is also true in every other sphere of life, in the family and in the workplace. When people unite to achieve common goals, and are willing to give and take, and think of each other's needs...then there is no limit to the good things they can accomplish together. As Frank Purdue once said: "There's no limit to the quality you can build into a chicken".

Promise Fulfilled

Bible in a Year:

Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!

Luke 1:45 Each summer when I was a child, I would travel two hundred miles to enjoy a week with my grandparents. I wasn’t aware until later how much wisdom I soaked up from those two people I loved. Their life experiences and walk with God had given them perspectives that my young mind couldn’t yet imagine. Conversations with them about the faithfulness of God assured me that God is trustworthy and fulfills every promise He makes.

Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a teenager when an angel visited her. The incredible news brought by Gabriel must have been overwhelming, yet she willingly accepted the task with grace (Luke 1:38). But perhaps her visit with her elderly relative Elizabeth—who was also in the midst of a miraculous pregnancy (some scholars believe she may have been sixty years old)—brought her comfort as Elizabeth enthusiastically confirmed Gabriel’s words that she was the mother of the promised Messiah (vv. 39–45).

As we grow and mature in Christ, as my grandparents did, we learn that He keeps His promises. He kept His promise of a child for Elizabeth and her husband Zechariah (vv. 57–58). And that son, John the Baptist, became the harbinger of a promise made hundreds of years before—one that would change the course of humanity’s future. The promised Messiah—the Savior of the world—was coming! (Matthew 1:21–23). .

Reflect & Pray

Why can you trust God to fulfill His promises? Which of His promises bring you the most joy?

Loving Father, thank You for being trustworthy and for fulfilling Your promises.

We’re all glad to have this nice, cooler weather too! LOL Mid 80s with lows in the 60s for a few days, the low 80s with lows in the upper 50s later in the week. My fave temperature range.

I’ve seen your temps showing in the 40s the past couple of days when someone posts it in LH chat. And I saw termination dust on a few of the high peaks in the mountains the other day. Too early to be seeing snow! I hope y’all don’t have another winter like last winter.

But it was rain today and you got a good amount the past 24 hours.

I wish I could see the cam now and enjoy seeing your sunshine. So pretty up there. It’ll be a couple of days, at least, before they fix the cam. There’s the San Diego Bay cam to fall back on, and it’s nice, but it isn’t the same.

Not a hymn, but I think this song matches the general thrust of your post pretty well.   (I hope this doesn't offend anyone participating in this Blessed thread.)

So glad you had a good visitor day.

And even MORE glad you got rain. I’ll bet the beans, and corn, and everything else is happy tonight.

I still have a 20# bag of just sunflower seeds, so all the birdies will be happy for a while. But I am down to my last bag of peanuts for the jays and magpies. And they knock on the window.

The day started off with a bang. A group of members of the TN Military Collectors Assoc. were there for a tour soon after we opened. And it went on from there.
My standouts for the day were identical twin boys about 10 years old or so, who came in with their grandfather. He was there to talk to one of the guys who works there and the boys took me off to ogle everything in the museum. They were so intelligent, had a lot of questions about what they saw, VERY polite, and the three of us had a great time.
I do feel sorry for the young girls they’ll encounter. They’re very handsome and I foresee trails of broken hearts in their wakes. LOL

We need more rain than we got today but maybe tomorrow will be better. The beans need a really good drink at this point. More rain is expected tomorrow and again later in the week.
The downside is the grass will take off and I just got everything mowed. waaaaaaah!

That bag of sunflower seeds ought to last a while. Better get more peanuts soon so the jays and magpies don’t break a window when they knock on it. LOL

Hey there, radu!

No break unless you call 99 or 98 a break. LOL! I hope you have had a break from the humidity. Were there plenty of guests at the museum this weekend?
