New Study: Most Electric Vehicles Cost More to Charge Than Filling Up a Car with GasNew Study: Most Electric Vehicles Cost More to Charge Than Filling Up a Car with Gas
The Federalist Papaers ^ | 8/2/23 | Peter Partoll

Advocates for electric vehicles have once again been hit with a rather inconvenient fact.

With gas prices surging, the Biden administration has been relentlessly urging Americans to switch to electric vehicles as an alternative, with the supposed added benefit of being able to stop climate change.

The idea behind this push seems to be that it is cheaper to charge an electric vehicle than it is to fuel a car in the current economy. Thus, Americans who use EVs can rest assured that they do not have to worry about the price of gas.

However, a new report is bringing all of that into question, suggesting that it may in fact be more expensive to charge an electric vehicle.

I’m going to have to clarify some of this, because I found
an error in my logic on this. The difference may mean that
I only go 2.75 to 3.00 times further.

I have to run now, but I’ll work it up later. It’s still a
plus, but I did make a mistake overall.

"Well, according to the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), the professionals at DOE had their initial data wrong."

As a side note to this thread, please consider the following.

Speaking of wrong data for junk science remedies for government / industrial manufactured crises imo, consider the following allegation about EV technology.

Electric cars are a waste of time and resources.

The dirty, mathematically discoverable secret is that you’ve gotta use more than 290kWh in a month before the new rate is a net gain. That much usage or less, and you’re a net loser.

So almost everyone should be a net winner? With the heavy Texas heat right now, we're burning through 500 kWh in a week. In the week of Spring or Fall when we don't use AC at all? We still hit at least 150-160 kWh per week. And that's with water heater, dryer, furnace, and stove all on gas. I don't think we even could get below 290 kWh in a month unless we just pulled the breaker for two or three weeks!

An ev weighs the same charged or discharged.

An ice weighs more with a full tank.

...but you can also get off-surge pricing in California, using your Tesla as a battery.

HUH?

Even a halfway creative person could make a bracket of steel and find 3 holes in the block to mount it.

Cost - maybe $100 total.

This or that might... anything just might be possible. But who the heck is going to want to do that on a daily basis? Plus burning through the battery. Charge/discharge cycles are finite.

Not anytime soon.

EV buyers are Regime clients, so we can look forward to subsidized charge rates for EVs.

How much charge will the average EV battery lose in one week sitting in my enclosed garage?

It depends on the tech in the car. In lower power mode you might lose a mile a day or less, more in the winter. The big drain is having all the features of the car turned on. I've read up to 10 miles a day in losses.

Thus, Americans who use EVs can rest assured that they do not have to worry about the price of gas.

States are now starting to raise the annual license registration fees on EV's to make up for the loss of gasoline taxes...

Michigan is a recreation state with many people driving north in the summer with their boats and trailers and towing snow mobiles in the winter.

That extra weight has to really take a toll on the EV's battery charge per trip.

In the winter cold, EV mileage is drastically reduced and when you're pulling your snowmobiles, even more.

With a typical 250 mile, one way trip, I can't imagine how many stops will be required to charge your EV.

Yes it does and it weighs about 30% more than an ICE vehicle full of gas including a few extra gas cans for good measure.

Anybody that does some serious towing isn’t going to buy an EV truck or SUV. The range is nearly cut in half under good weather conditions. A buddy of mine likes to go fishing at a lake about 75 miles from his home. There is no way he can make a round trip. There aren’t any charging stations between his home and the lake in central Illinois. Imagine trying to run a business that requires towing trailers any lengthy distance..

Still not a winnner — the money you “saved” got taxed out of you by the Sate, and given to the utility on behalf of “the poor” who can’t pay their bills.
