‘Americans Had Better Wake Up’: Biden Admin Fires Next Regulatory Salvo In Its Push For EVs
Daily Caller ^ | 7/28/23 | Nick Pope

The Biden administration proposed a new and ambitious set of fuel economy standards for cars and light-duty trucks Friday, its latest move to prod American consumers towards adopting electric vehicles (EVs).

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a subagency of the Department of Transportation (DOT), unveiled the updated Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards, which would require cars and lighter trucks to improve their respective fuel efficiencies by 2% and 4% starting in 2027, according to a DOT press release announcing the proposal.

The rule would also mandate work vans and pickup trucks to increase their fuel efficiencies by 10% each year, starting in 2030, according to the DOT press release. If manufacturers fail to meet the stipulations of the proposed CAFE standards, they will have to pay punitive fines to the government, according to the rule’s text.

General Motors voiced its concerns to the Biden administration about prospective new fuel economy standards, telling administration officials in mid-July that such standards could cost American automobile manufacturers as much as $100 billion in 2031 and $300 billion over a five-year timeline, according to Reuters. The administration reportedly dismissed General Motors’s concerns, telling the company that their analysis was incorrect.

“This is an EV mandate and further evidence that the elites want normal people to hoof it or take the bus,” Dan Kish, senior fellow at the Institute for Energy Research, told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “Americans had better wake up, because cars will soon be so expensive that people won’t be able to afford them.”

The NHTSA believes that the proposal will save Americans money at the gas pump while boosting American auto manufacturing and reducing reliance on foreign oil, the press release says.

However, the agency has conceded that the rule would saddle the auto manufacturing industry...

Imagine how good Ford would be doing if instead of going whole hog EV, they brought back practical models like the Escort and Taurus.

I'm sure they can find a few inexpensive EVs on the Fremantle Highway! Even fancy German EVs.

The Great Reset makes no secret that they want us afoot. Pushing the EV’s is probably the quickest way to achieve it. And it’s good to remember that they don’t care how much pain and suffering is inflicted in the process, including famine.

Two things: work trucks and vans are needed to do ... wait for it ... work. Work requires energy.

Work = Force X distance

There's only so far you can whittle down the energy and still get work done.

What if fuel mileage reduction mandates were tied to government spending reduction mandates.

Did the U.S. Congress pass this EV mandate in a legislation? If not, then what the Biden Administration is doing is unconstitutional.

While China is burning record amounts of coal. They are constructing one NEW COAL BURNING power plant EVEY WEEK. It is far cheaper power than green energy which US businesses are forced to use.

72 miles per gallon of gas is pretty good. I’d rather they go this route then electric cars. Not everything is a bad thing. I remember when you complained that cars were going from 10 miles to the gallon to 25 miles a gallon. The sky is falling. Lol.

it is troubling, to think that bureaucratic decrees are being issued like this.

Last year, Gavin Newsom and the California Air Resources Board, decreed that no new internal combustion vehicles can be sold in California in 2035. A few other states and the European Union are also using that 2035 date as a target to phase out the internal combustion engine.

And we’re doing all of this to fight global warming, and it is blasphemous of any of us to question global warming, or how much man is contributing to this problem.

I would just point out, that we have nowhere near the infrastructure to recharge hundreds of millions of electric vehicles, even if we buy the notion, that we have to fight global warming. But such inconvenient truths don’t seem to matter to the liberals who are issuing decrees on how we are to live our lives.

We should get rid of our legislatures and courts. Who ever is elected as the President or the Governor (from the Democratic Party) gets to rule as our Kings.

We're heading down that direction.

One thing that always ticked me off is it seems the auto companies just accepted whatever mandate the government kept ratcheting up on cafe standards over time and never fought back. They just kept rolling over passing the extra costs off onto the consumer and I am about @#$$!×ing tired of it!!

While China is burning record amounts of coal. They are constructing one NEW COAL BURNING power plant EVEY WEEK. It is far cheaper power than green energy which US businesses are forced to use.

If China were using CLEAN COAL BURNING TECHNOLOGY, their air wouldn't be so damn' thick and dark and polluting the rest of the world.

Here in the USA, we have clean coal burning technology and are forbidden from using it by the enviro-whacko's and the moron in the White House.

In the meantime, China and India are responsible for 70% of the worlds coal usage. The USA and Europe combine for 8% and the rest of the world is 12%.

Clearly, China and India are the world's biggest polluters, and emit more CO2 (that "dangerous gas" 'n all that) than the rest of the world combined. There's no amount of "CO2 emission cutting" the rest of the world can do, to make up for the crap China and India put into the air themselves.
