A Pennsylvania poacher who allegedly killed a Pittsburgh suburb’s beloved bald eagle later turned themselves in — but locals are fuming at the lack of information on the suspect from authorities.
“The killing of our beloved eagle had a major impact on the entire community,” Cherry Valley Lakeview Estates resident Linda Carnevali told The Post Saturday.
“We cannot fathom why anyone would want to harm our eagles and take it to the extreme of killing one.” The eagle, who Carnevali and her husband Raymond called “Sam” after the popular character “Sam the Eagle” in Disney’s Muppet Vision 3D, was allegedly shot to death in May near the Cherry Valley Dam, nearly 30 miles southwest of Pittsburgh.

The author could have written "turned himself in" but that would have riled a lot of folks up.
"turned himself or herself in" works, but is as awkward as "turned themselves in."
"turned themself in" (singular) doesn't work even though the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 5th Edition says it is a real word:

I guess it took multiple people to kill this proud bird.
That’s why I dislike hawks, they are very cruel. Bears are the same, they eat their prey alive. Mother nature is not really that pleasant in the kill or be killed department.

We have one that fishes in our Lake on occasion, Rex is one cool dude! He landed in a big pine tree across the lake a year ago, there were kids all around the base..when Rex decided to wing it again, all you heard was “WHOA!!!”
The eagle could have attacked a small dog or cat. Who knows?
You are right..nature is cruel. Some of the stuff from Africa is nauseating. I’ve seen hawks do disgusting stuff. Once saved a bloodied squirrel by chasing off hawk which had him in the talons. I tend to be for the underdog and hate bullies. Just me I guess.

I can easily imagine this the booger eating, propeller-beanie wearing nitwit, red diaper baby, sipping his/her/their soy latte, pecking at the keyboard one index finger at a time so he/her/they don’t ruin his/her/their filthy overgrown fingernails, thinking himself/herself/themselves to be quite wise in front of his/her/their tiny rainbow decal on their ipad.

Preferred pronouns strike again?
I’ve had several fly up out of the Allegheny River Valley in northwestern PA and right along side me on the highway - beautiful birds. Would love for a Master falconer to be able to permit own one in my area, most I’ve talked to in the past won’t touch the bigger raptor birds because they take a LOT of strength and patience to handle.
