I think I know what most states will do.
I feel TOTALLY EMBARRASSED by the way I used to go after Muslims for their practice of Female Genital Mutilation. In the 17th and 18th centuries young soprano male singers were castrated so that they could sing in the Italian church choirs.
Castration was usually done before the boys reached the age of puberty, preferably age nine. After the operation, they were able to retain high notes when singing.
Each boy was then referred to as a “castrato" and in groups, they were called the “castrati".
