In the 17th and 18th centuries young soprano male singers were castrated so that they could sing in the Italian church choirs.
Also, the eunuchs have a long history in China. Only eunuchs were allowed the position of Grand Secretary and they were the only guards permitted in the Forbidden City at night. The mutilation of young boys was finally banned in 1912 when the Qing Dynasty was overthrown.

Yes, several hundreds of Medieval Italian boys were castrated for their voices. A sad legacy of those years.
Tens of thousands of slaves, blacks, and Turkish men were castrated by their Muslim owners to form military groups.
