Bud Light sales continued to plunge as the nation’s No. 1 beer brand continues to lose share to runner-up Modelo Especial — but its sister brands are beginning to recover from the disastrous marketing partnership with Dylan Mulvaney.
Sales of Bud Light dropped 24.4% in the week ended June 3 — slightly worse than the 23.9% decline over the previous week which had included steep discounting over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, according to data from Bump Williams Consulting and NielsenIQ.
Meanwhile, Anheuser-Busch’s Michelob Ultra — the nation’s third-biggest brand by sales — turned positive for the first time in weeks with a 0.7% sales increase versus a 0.1% decline the previous week. Elsewhere, Anheuser-Busch beers continued to drop, although at a slower rate.

Modelo and Bud are both owned by AB InBev.
As of 13 Jun 2023, Anheuser-Busch InBev owns Modelo beer in Mexico and the rest of the world, except in the US, where it is owned by Constellation Brands.1 In 2013, AB InBev took full control of Grupo Modelo and agreed with US antitrust regulators to sell the Mexican company's business in the US to Constellation.02 However, AB InBev retained the rights to Modelo brands.
So, Inbev retains the rights to Modelo Brands. Inbev licenses the brand (for big $$$) to Constellation Brands in the US.
Back to my original post: I incorrectly stated Inbev owns both Budweiser and Modelo. They do not. They license the brand to Constellation Brands for a fee.
If that licensing fee is based on sales, then yes -- boycotting Modelo would hurt Inbev's bottom line (also Constellation Brands, too bad so sad.)
I think that about covers it, would you agree or disagree?
Carlsberg.
Not cheap but good beer
I was thinking Big deal they are both owned by the same company.
But not in the US.
Must be a FTC thing that they didn’t want InBev owning all the major beer companies.
Wait a second. Cuban says going woke is good business...
Yeah.
Rival?? They’re both owned by the same company
This time of year, Leinenkugel summer shandy.
CC
Modelo’s ad using the theme song from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly was brilliance in advertising.
Modelo isn’t a rival. It’s made by the same conglomerate.
Yingling.
Realistically, in today's world, if Bud Light ends up someday being discontinued, I think it would be a tremendous success. Bud Light is the offensive product here, not their other five hundred brands.
IMO, the message is loud and clear. Bankrupting InBev isn't going to happen anytime soon.
But but but Mark Cuban says this is all good?
good stuff maynard..
Yes, you are right. In the US, Modelo is distributed by Constellation.
The local Anheiser Busch distributor has a big Modelo neon sign on the building along with Bud and Bud Light
Modelo is part of InBev which owns Bud/Busch
Sierranevada.
Okay, that's actually two words, nyuk nyuk nyuk.
Not Bud, not bad.
American sale’s don’t contribute to InBev.
