California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom wants to change the Constitution to curb gun rights.
Fed up with inaction on gun control, Newsom unveiled a proposed 28th Amendment to the Constitution on Thursday that would implement "common sense" gun safety measures he claims have widespread bipartisan support.

The Democratic governor's proposed 28th Amendment would not abolish the Second Amendment, which establishes a right to bear firearms for personal self-defense. However, it would raise the federal minimum age to purchase a firearm from 18 to 21; mandate universal background checks to purchase firearms; institute a waiting period for all gun purchases; and ban "assault weapons."

Doesn't a Constitutional Amendment require a two-thirds vote of the States to become law?
I wonder if the Left will try the same sorts of stunts they tried to get the ERA into the Constitution this time. I expect they'll try them, and a lot more, including federal prosecutions against — and removal of — governors that don't go along.
Oh, and bringing new States into the Union in order to tip the vote their way.

He has as much chance of getting 38 states to ratify this as I do of building my own rocket ship in the backyard out of balsa wood and blasting off to Mars.

Newsom and his ilk are precisely why our Founding Fathers wrote the Second Amendment as they did.

The proposed amendment is DOA, but it is constructive that Newsom is proposing using the correct process, and not bloviating about packing the Supreme Court.
