At least he is proposing this in the proper way. But there’s zero chance of this happening.

Great point. It seems as if there is no chance of this amendment passing.

Simply lock up anyone who refuses to vote for it? Makes sense.

I live in California. Without ballot fraud, he would have been recalled. Can’t stand this man. He isn’t a leader. Typical Democrat politician who supports divisive policies.

So he is proposing one amendment that would directly contradict another amendment. How is that supposed to work?

Good luck on that one. Newsom just made an attack ad for Republicans if Newsom runs for national office and if Republicans are not too pussy to run the ad.

I do not like the very idea of tampering with the Bill of Rights. Though presumably the Bill of Rights could be modified by subsequent amendments, I think it would set a very bad precedent. The Bill of Rights was created by the Founders to specify and enumerate the inalienable rights described in the Declaration of Independence. What Newsom is proposing is as ill advised as the 18th Amendment creating Prohibition. Fortunately I doubt such an Amendment would stand an ice cubes chance in hell of being ratified.

It isn’t supposed to. It’s a power grab for more control and has nothing to do with actual crime.

They aren’t even trying to hide it any more.

IIRC, it ALSO requires at least 3/4ths of states legislatures to affirm it. It will never pass.

Well, if Constitutional Amendments can be used to deny God-given rights, I propose something progressive will love the name of: The Anti Reagan Amendment:

No one who has ever been governor of California can ever be President.

Just from reading 2nd A....it would seem like the 28th would go directly against it, so it’d be a problem for any court to handle.

Not sure if more background checks really accomplish more safety.

On age...if 18, 19, and 20 are out....why is 21 ‘special’? Same logic would dictate that military shouldn’t recruit anyone but 21 and over, if this is a rational argument (which it isn’t).

Getting it passed (as is)? Might pass via 8 states...remainder are going to ask for a dozen changes, and I doubt if you ever get past 20 states supporting this.

Perhaps the better way to engage on this...make the 28th about loss of rights and mandated mental-asylum stays...if you are regarded as ‘dangerous’. You know...like losing your voting rights, or being denied driving privilege’s.

There is nothing “common sense” about giving the government more control over our freedom. The actions of the modern-day gestapo along with the unchecked thuggery of antifa/BLM shows that we NEED more armament among the people, not less.

The proposed amendment is DOA, but it is constructive that Newsom is proposing using the correct process, and not bloviating about packing the Supreme Court.

There is nothing constructive about Newsom's proposal. It is a "bait-and-switch" move.

While we scoff at the proposed 28th amendment and make smug comments about procedural details that would make it impossible to pass, they will pack the Supreme Court at the first opportunity and nullify the 2nd Amendment through "reinterpretation".

There are over 50,000 "Gun Control" laws on the books today. Every one of them is in violation of the 2nd Amendment. Incrementalism is how the Left succeeds.

Rust never sleeps. Leftists never stop pressing for disarmament of their opponents. That is because they will do things to opponents for which some of their opponents will shoot them.

The peasantry must never be allowed to even think they can resist the authorities.
