The deal to raise the debt ceiling for two years to the tune of $4 trillion while minimally cutting spending passed the House, thanks to the Democratic Party support. More Democrats voted for the compromise than Republicans did, which we all saw coming, given the vocal opposition from the party's conservative wing. Even more damning were the allegations that the $4 trillion increase wasn’t a Democratic Party pitch but Speaker Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) proposal. Yet, even on the Republican side of the aisle, you had staunch conservatives disagreeing.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), one of the most prominent spending hawks, voiced his approval of the legislation, whereas Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) vehemently opposed it. Massie’s stamp of approval was key as it assured passage through the House Rules Committee, which enabled the process of bringing this bill up for a floor vote.

46 Dems voted no
2 Dems missed the vote

As Spencer wrote, at 314-117, the deal passed. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) voiced his support for the bill. Still, the fact it was passed without majority Republican Party support guarantees a motion to vacate could be considered by House conservatives. If successful, it could take the gavel away from Mr. McCarthy.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries says he will support debt ceiling bill "without hesitation, reservation or trepidation."

Well, have no fear, establishment media, Trump has spoken about the deal, and he's not too pleased with it (via WaPo) [emphasis mine]:
Most Republican presidential candidates are panning the deal negotiated by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to suspend the debt ceiling, including the GOP front-runner, former president Donald Trump, who said he would have allowed the country to default.
“Well, it is what it is, it was going to pass,” Trump told Des Moines 1040 WHO radio host Simon Conway, adding that “we’ll get it fixed and will get it fixed properly in two years.” Asked about his recent CNN town hall comments about letting a default happen, he said, “I would have done that.”
[…]
During the CNN town hall event earlier this month, Trump argued that Republicans should use the deal ceiling as leverage to roll back many of Biden’s spending priorities.
“If they don’t, … you’ll have to default,” Trump said. He suggested the consequences of a default could lead to “a bad week or a bad day.”
During Trump’s presidency, the debt ceiling was raised three times by Congress without any preconditions.
[…]
Until Wednesday, Trump had been publicly silent since the contours of the deal became public Saturday — and had drawn criticism from some GOP presidential rivals for that.
Look, it’s not the best bill by any stretch. We’re also not out of the woods here since it heads to the Democratic-controlled Senate, where progressives aren’t happy with the legislation. Then again, will they torpedo the whole package and deny Joe Biden a legislative win? This isn’t over yet.
If there were any surplus of that magnitude, then why didn't the Federal debt drop accordingly?
We live it clown world now. Everything is possible.
There was a time it was considered ‘immoral’ for the media to contribute air time without charge for a democrat candidate ... what is it about catholics who never have a line they will not cross.... godfather Biden is the US head catholic ... yet the so called good catholic NEVER EVER say a disparaging word against him ...
So I get it ... catholic fox is going to support catholic saint Desantis ... morals be damned
P.S. — Any “surplus” you saw back then wasn’t the result of sound fiscal policy. It was directly attributed to a short-term burst in income tax revenue after the Roth IRA was established in 1997 and millions of Americans converted traditional IRAs to Roth IRAs — which required them to pay income taxes on their prior IRA contributions that had been tax-deferred.
Duck and Dive all you want, you said the budget had never been in surplus in your lifetime, which would make you less than 30 years old.
Clearly it was in surplus under Clinton, even if gimmicks were used, they would not work today because the deficit is so large and the budget has a deficit bias built in.
Thanks for the response, you’ve confirmed everything I suspected about Trump sycophants.
Pretty weak. Trump has never been considered a fiscal conservative and his record reflects that. Trump would best be served by discovering the best way to create economic prosperity and to eliminate the deep state is by defunding and shuttering massive portions of government. I still support Trump, no one else has proposed what I just wrote. Maybe when we are $50 Trillion in debt in a few years the idea will occur.
Yeah he looks bad on this. DeSantis called out this betrayal immediately. Trump should have said something when it would have mattered.
if Trump was mad at her for something she did, why not call her up and discuss the issue instead of going on social media and trashing someone who did a really good job as press secretary under some very trying circumstances.
You Trump haters ruin each thread with your Trump hate - all it does is annoy people and they move on to another thread you haven’t ruined yet. You’re not convincing anybody…
Oh of course we’re not convincing any of the Trump die hards here. As Trump himself said, he could shoot somebody right on 5th avenue in the middle of the day, and some of you would still support him. But there are others, who are listening, and quietly making their way off the Trump train.
What I can tell you for sure, is, once you do finally leave Trump, it’s like the red pill all over again, and there is NO going back after that. So if anyone ought to put a sock in it, it’s those of you trying to lure people back. Leaving Trump is like breaking some horrible addiction, and you just want to make sure you not fall back into it again, no matter what.
Then no budget. Play hardball
“As Trump himself said, he could shoot somebody right on 5th avenue in the middle of the day, and some of you would still support him.”
That’s another oft-repeated lie from 2016. The guy who actually said that was a Trump-hating reporter. Soon after, at a rally, Trump jokingly quoted the guy - and we all laughed at the absurdity of it..
Get your facts straight
He said it all right - whether it came from someone else originally or not. He said it with PRIDE. And it’s probably true.

I agree with you I’ve said repeatedly I would happily vote for Trump if he wins the nomination and the same goes for DeSantis
Trump is not doing dumb things, that’s who he is, you don’t trash your press secretary who did a really good job for you so a perceived slight and let people like Kevin McCarthy off the hook over the bad deal he negotiated especially after supporting him for the job
Go down the list of all the terrible people he put into jobs, they rarely if ever get criticized by Trump but a press secretary gets savaged for basically nothing, the bad hires he would have to own not so with the press secretary
Has Trump been as critical of Fauci as he has been about Kayleigh McEnany and who did far more damage to Trump and the country
Duh.
I remember the moment well - I was one of the people laughing outrageously when he told that story.
That’s not pride - that’s contempt for the fake news that he was mocking.
You obviously don’t understand Trump - you don’t understand his supporters - you don’t get his jokes because you are the brunt of them.
Get a clue.
It had a keel, that fits through from the top of the boat and extends out the bottom.
I pulled it out to see what would happen, and the boat went with the breeze, regardless of what I did with the sail.
Only when I replaced the keel board back into it's slot did I regain steering control with he sail, and was able to tack back to shore.
