Ron DeSantis’ 2024 campaign launch ran into a few glitches on Wednesday evening, but it wasn’t long before he hit his stride. After spending 75 minutes talking policy with Elon Musk, the Florida man shifted over to do primetime interviews with Mark Levin and Trey Gowdy before holding a tele-town hall with voters. He’s scheduled to cap his roll-out off in Iowa on Tuesday with an in-person rally at a baseball stadium.
Still, the headlines from the mainstream press weren’t kind to DeSantis. Many proclaimed his launch to be a “disaster,” with some going so far as to claim his campaign was already over. Well, that narrative was firmly put to bed after the 24-hour donation numbers were released for the newly-minted DeSantis campaign.
In a stunning, record-setting haul, $8.2 million was raised in just a single day, and that’s exactly why you should always be skeptical of what the press says (The New York Times).
"Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida raised $8.2 million in his first 24 hours as a presidential candidate, his campaign said on Thursday, a huge sum that cements his standing as the leading rival to Donald J. Trump.
Mr. DeSantis’s campaign began on Wednesday evening with a glitch-filled kickoff on Twitter, but that apparently did not slow donor enthusiasm. The campaign said on Wednesday that it had raised $1 million during a single hour.
The $8.2 million figure is more than the $6.3 million that Joseph R. Biden Jr. raised in his first 24 hours as a candidate in 2019, or the $6.1 million haul raised by former Representative Beto O’Rourke that same year."
Besting Biden’s formally-record-setting total by $1.9 million is no small feat. It’s also important to remember that campaign donations are capped at a fairly low amount, unlike donations to Super PACs where big-time donors like to send their money. That means that almost all of that $8.2 million would have to have come from normal, small-dollar donors around the country. There’s no way to spin that other than being impressive.
Does that mean DeSantis is going to romp his way through the primary? I have no idea, and I think that’s a perfectly good answer at this point in the campaign. Anyone telling you with any certainty what will happen is just telling you what they want to believe. We are seven months out from the first primary and there’s a ton that can change between now and then. In fact, history would suggest that we should all be ready for some surprises as we head into the fall.
For now, the candidates will be doing their best to get their message out there and to draw support. I think that’s what DeSantis’ huge fundraising total amounts to right now. It’s evidence that his candidacy is the real deal (you can’t fake small-dollar donations) and that he’s going to draw a lot of interest going forward. He’ll also have the resources to implement the infrastructure needed to compete. What that amounts to in the end will be decided when voters have their say. I’m comfortable with that arrangement.
Interesting they did not see how much Trump brought in in the first 24 hours. But I contributed to both in the first 24 hours, feel very happy with contributing even more to DeSantis.
Well if it took Trump 6 weeks to bring in $9.5 million, I’d say the first 24 hours was probably a few million.
I wish my two favourite potus candidates weren’t on such a collision course. Gonna get ugly.
Yes, it’s funny they talked about how much Trump took weeks to raise, Desantis did it in a day. Truly fantastic. Maybe there is hope for the Republicans in 2024.
I’m sure you feel quite clever with your grade-school artwork...
Of course it doesn’t have to be that way.
If Trump would knock off this a desanctimonious business a lot of this enmity would go away.
He has a bunch of deep state billionaires behind him. He should probably raise a lot more expects to spend 200 million dollars on the campaign. This is all total b s
He just told his donors to wait for the announcement, before donating so it would fake enthusiasm.
If he was actually that popular, why doesn't he have a live announcement party or fund raiser open to the general public, in florida?
You are right.
Now you know it is meant for one thing.
Just sit back and watch.
You keep peddling that lie, but no one other than other OnlyTrumpers believe you.
As far as why he announced the way he did, I imagine it was to generate as much interest and chatter as possible. Seems to have worked, despite the technical difficulties.
Do you realize how stupid that is? Every candidate including Trump delays or waits as long as they can because of the way the rules are. Nothing illegal about this, it’s always going on, so you’re wasting your time dragging this out because anybody that knows how this is run, anybody who reads the news, anybody has any recollection of history knows this is perfectly normal.
DeSantis must have told Trump in private months ago. Obviously Trump failed to talk him out of it. I don’t know what his hurry was . He could have waited 4 years. Perhaps DeSantis believed our growing dictatorship had to be fought now or it would be too late to reverse it.
Trump is not the problem here, you are.
DeSantis has no chance this time around.
It will never happen. A liberals wet dream you bring to life.
There sure is. There are plenty of deep staters and their cronies who will do anything to keep Trump out of office and stop any nonsense like "America First".
Trump has a lot of large donors, including billionaires, supporting him as well. Also such deep-state, establishment organizations as Disney, Black Rock, etc. So Neither Trump nor his supporters have any room to look down on Desantis getting support from billionaires...
IIRC, Yeb Bush started off his 2016 Campaign with a booming 100 Million war chest ponied up by GOPe and Globalist donors, over which the mainslime media swooned. (And that WAS a hefty sum at that time). Yeb went through that money like Bleep throuh the proverbial goose, but it never had a prayer against DJT’s appeal to the Real American Voters. It will be ineresting to see how much clout the DS, the WEF types, et al’s million$ have with today’s Real American Voters.
