(The Center Square) – Will the Biden administration’s latest energy regulations force Americans out of gas vehicles and into more expensive electric cars? Lawmakers in the U.S. House held a hearing Wednesday tackling that key question.
The hearing, held by the Oversight Committee’s Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs Subcommittee, focused on newly proposed Environmental Protection Agency tailpipe emission rules that the federal agency itself called “ambitious.”
The EPA projects the proposed regulation would mean that fully electric vehicles make up two thirds of all new "light duty" and 46% of new medium-duty vehicle sales by 2032.
The EPA, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment, said in a news release that the rules would improve air quality and would avoid “nearly 10 billion tons of CO2 emissions.” The rule changes still faces a lengthy public comment and approval process as well as avoiding an override from Congress after it is implemented.
“By proposing the most ambitious pollution standards ever for cars and trucks, we are delivering on the Biden-Harris Administration’s promise to protect people and the planet, securing critical reductions in dangerous air and climate pollution and ensuring significant economic benefits like lower fuel and maintenance costs for families,” EPA Administrator Michael Regan said

“conversion to EVs”
So Biden will still be President in 2032? OK then lets all worry. 🙄
“Democrats want to ruin all that. Everything they touch turns to crap. They want us living like a third world country while the e.ites enjoy all the freedoms and perks that they have taken away from us.”
Yes, it’s really that simple. They are using the subterfuge of bogus “climate change” to do all this. NONE of what they are doing will make one iota’s bit of difference to the climate. So the only explanation is that they are tyrants, no different than the Soviet Politburo, and they seek to reduce us to servitude.
While doing that, they are going to cover our beautiful land with millions of ugly windmills and hundreds of square miles of solar panels.
No skin in the game.
We can all snack on our bugs as we wait for our public electric bus to come along to take us someplace they allow.
I’ve been a German car guy for a long time. I am looking at Toyota on this next go around for exactly this reason.
You vill valk, bike, und take public transit und you vill like it.
How can corp/people conduct business when the presidency goes from communism to capitalism every few years? It’s getting ridiculous. I thought congress made all the laws? lol
Oh no there was definitely a chip shortage. People in the industry saw that coming for over a decade. Supply has barely been able to meet demand for a while. Every time somebody built a new factory a new wave of “smart” appliances would jump demand up. Then you add supply chain issues from the lockdowns and boom chip shortage. It was always a when not an if on that. And it will happen again. We so many chips in so many things, and new tech discourages storage of old supply and causes constant retools.
Basing this on what the “elites” seem to be about, I don’t think they will ever inherit the planet. This is based on what is stated in the Holy Bible as to what is God’s plan for mankind. The “elites” need to read it & start acting accordingly. Right now, today, is soon enough hopefully.
Well, I am not buying it for the following reasons:
1. The media lies like a rug, this is not even debatable.
2. There was no shortage of phones or TVs that I saw.
3. No shortage of EVs. Those take a lot of chips, right?
4. It’s still going on (really?... c’mon... really?)
5. It was never seriously investigated or examined.
6. It was what the left ‘splained me what was going on (this alone is enough to know its a big lie).
7. It aligns nicely with this administrations goals.
8. I just read one of the big foundries or whatever posted a loss this year.
9. No CEOs attempted to solve the problem and corner the market. (this is just weird).
Well that’s on you. The chip supply and demand problem was being discussed right here on FR in the early 2010s. It was real. One of the first places the problem hit was high end GPUs, starting about 2015 getting those was a nightmare, and is still rough.
All cars were running into chip problems.
Things have mostly mellowed out, but when normal demand is 100% of supply, and then supply runs into an issue demand stacks and supply has no “beef up” to meet it with.
PLENTY of CEOs have been attempting to solve the problem. But chip factories take time to build. And the rate at which the tech changes existing factories have to be redone constantly. And, like I already said, and you studiously ignored, demand KEPT RISING.
It’s reality. It’s been reality for over a decade. Stick your fingers in your ears and pretend it ain’t so if you must. But that just makes you a person that has decided to be ignorant.
You addressed none of my points, Stu. This ain’t the Ivy leagues partner, you need to come to the table with something.
But I get it... you go to war with what you got. And Stu, once again you just aren’t packing the gear.
And there you go with the insults again, you’re quick to go there. But at least you’re not on the asses again. I thought you were channeling my little aspiring proctologist buddy from Berlin.
Hmm... haven’t talked to him for a while, hope he’s ok.
I addressed ALL your points. You just don’t like the answers.
I came to the table with FACTS. This chip shortage has been predicted. Heck the first inklings I saw were in the early 2000s when the “internet of things” (beginning of “smart” appliances) was first getting going. People in the industry were saying then there wasn’t that much elasticity in supply chain and putting chips in everything was going to dramatically increase demand and supply might have a hard time keeping up.
When you declare you don’t care what the facts are you are choosing to be ignorant. That’s not an insult. That’s a fact. Yet another one you’re going to ignore.
“PLENTY of CEOs have been attempting to solve the problem. “<-— not a fact. Its something someone on the internet said.
There are almost no new cars available on dealer lots.
Biden admin wants to ban gas cars.
Problems with cars started shortly after his watch started.
^-— facts that anyone can observe
If it turns out I’m wrong, you’ll be first to know. But so far, there have been no mere coincidences with this current regime.
Absolutely a FACT. New factories get built. But the demand increases during the build (remember chip factories are a hard build, you need very high end clean rooms, and a lot of other high tech machines, machines that require chips, can you see the problem?). By the time the factory is built supply is once again breaking even.
Plenty of chunks of business are still dealing with the chip shortage. Car manufacturers have the problem that they use low end low profit chips. If you’re manufacturer and you know you can’t meet all your demand who are you going to favor? The guys who pay you $100 per unit or $10? That math is easy.
You are wrong. This is the 4th time I’ve explained it to you. And will be the 4th time you yell “LALALALALA.
That’s right, you have excitedly and passionately ‘splaind me the party line. Four times, no less.
But common sense and casual observation indicates otherwise. And I’m 10 for 10 with this funky cabal.
Your apples and milk are ready!
