It's a scene becoming more common outside state capitol buildings across the country: Protesters outraged as legislators inside move to pass new laws restricting transgender rights.
So far this year, 54 bills restricting transgender rights have passed in 18 states, according to the Trans Legislation Tracker.
Most of those bills limit gender-affirming care for transgender youth and restrict their participation in school activities, like sports.
Despite the viral scenes of protest, a new Scripps News/YouGov poll shows Americans largely support these types of laws.
The poll found 44% of Americans support laws restricting transgender care for minors, compared with 34% against. It also showed 75% of Republicans support the more restrictive laws, as do 45% of Independents. On the other hand, 60% of Democrats are opposed.
"They're seeing that people are responding strongly to the framing of this as about protecting our kids," said Mike Ricci, a partner at Seven Letter Strategies and former communications director for two politicians.

Then in 2021, Republican Glenn Youngkin won the gubernatorial election in Virginia after campaigning heavily on parental involvement in school decisions.
They should be citing Fauci And Weingartnerm who actually closed down the liberal indoctrination factories and let parents see the crap their children were being "taught".
Poor whining liberal babies.
Finally...something actually “for the children”.
“Transgender rights” basically amount to molesting children.
No one is ‘restricting’ anyone’s rights. The effort is to prevent the establishment of a legally protected class comprised of disturbed people with psychological issues.
‘Gender Affirming Care’ is delusion affirming care and sane people want no part of it.

Americans have rights. Read the Constitution.
LGBT etc don’t have special rights. Read the Constitution.

Hypocrite.
B4 transgenders we were already on a slippery slope slouching to Gomorrah. All we have to do is wait until November ‘24 and we’ll fix it right? Think again.
Southern border is hemorrhaging. BLM is softening us up and transgenders will do the honors of finishing off the country. None have anything in common but what they’re doing is working.
The left has an opening and they’re taking advantage. We had one last November and what did we do with it?
Sounds like an infection. I guess that's what it is, really.
Nah, the prevention of Transgender wreaked havoc across our
society is now on the Republican agenda.
Children will be protected.
The rights of the 99.75% of the populace will not be hijacked
by men who can’t behave.
We got the House. It would be a heck of a lot worse without
it.
Cross dressers have been around... forever. No one gives a damn what they do as long as they leave children alone.
Let me try to explain: There are real women strippers too - and they’ve been around forever too. And we don’t want them serializing our kids or putting on shows for 5 year olds.
So just leave the kids alone and enjoy your kink with each other and NOT with us...
We are men or women. Boys or girls.
The choice is and was not ours to make. Two sexes. Period.
>> Restricting transgender rights
Malicious doublespeak
Say it right.
Yes, any "doctor" who would go along with such nonsense ON a CHILD is not giving care, but playing Mengele. (and the child's/parent's therapists are just as nuts).
Don't we think it's strange of the states that allow this but outlaw help transitioning back?
That is NOT restricting transgender rights. That is protecting youth from making an irreversible mistake that they may well regret later in life, and that is protecting biological women's rights from unfair competition.
Restricting transgender rights now a focal point in GOP politics....
And a good one at that.
