Harley-Davidson is planning to phase out motorcycles powered by its storied internal combustion engines, and will slowly but surely transform into an all-electric brand. Harley CEO Jochen Zeitz tells Dezeen that after 120 years of being famous for its big gas-powered models, electrification is the logical next step. That is, if the company plans on sticking around for another 120 years.
Harley-Davidson’s EV transition “needs to happen,” according to its CEO, and not just on a small scale with a brand like LiveWire. No, we’re talking H-D dealers selling EVs exclusively, although it isn’t going to happen overnight.

Doubt it... they’ll have a special oil reservoir that will still leave a spot on the garage floor over the Winter...

All I know is when a driver wasn’t paying attention and I revved my engine their head swiveled.
That’s enough for me.

“Sounds like their-gas-powered models will be sticking around for at least 20 years. Seems reasonable.”
They can make some electric bikes to cash in on that crowd and see how it shakes out before going whole hog.
I know. Sorry.

I used to be. Had a ‘93 FXRP. Cop edition of the FXR. Fast for a heavy bike. Had to sell it to pay some bills. IF I ever got another HD, it would be a 883 Sportster. Loved that bike. I will NOT purchase an electric motorcycle.

The CEO is European so no surprise. The fact that HD ended up with a euroweenie running the company is ridiculous.
To: Salman
These people are insane. Does anyone who actually rides motorcycles think this is a good idea?
I have a Road King and Gold Wing.
Electric bikes are a really stupid idea.

Im from the midwest, Here we often refer to motorcycles as a “bike”. My previous “sport bike” was a Kawasaki with 160 bhp. My present bike is a Yamaha with 120 bhp. Trikes are a lawn chairs with an engine on 3 wheels.

Of course some of us like the sound too, if we didn’t we’d buy a Honda.Yup. I have a Goldwing. It sounds like a freaking sewing machine.
My Road King sounds like a motorcycle. I don't have very loud pipes though. Mine aren't stock, but are only a touch louder and lower pitch.

LOL I had a 97 Goldwing, it does. The wife liked it, said it was a more comfortable ride. Me, I like my Dyna. I have after market pipes too and love them. 🏍️
To: Elsie
People ride for many reasons. For some its the adrenaline rush from rapid acceleration. Requires no foreplay or small talk after the act.
